Work day in the morning + tired from prior day. Got out after lunch. Mrs. Slake rented a Duotone Unit from Elevation, started with 3.5m two handles, swapped for 2.5m boom, and ended the day with 4.5m two handles. Her preference is boom, she does not come from a windsurfing background but learned with the Slicks and the boom. Not sure if when she goes to harness riding, which she will, whether two handles is better than boom. Doubt it looking at the wing but something to think (ie. read/search) about. ... (more)

Windy in the morning before 9 am but it never built to much. However, it was great for wing foiling with a big wing and it kept going until the evening. Managed 3 long sessions: HA925 70km, lunch, HA925 85km, refuel, HA1125 67km. The last foil choice was the slowest but it was so much nicer not being worried getting back on foil that I fell off much less (amazing how different those two foils are). Bump n' jump. Afternoon session at Doug's just because we could. Two kites out taking up at lot of room. Johnny, Heather and Jesse all winged up to Mosier and back! Noce swell in the centre for riding and jumping when the wind was pumping! Dinner at 3 Rivers and ice cream from Mike's! Sunset Hammock time at the campground. A day well spent!

Arrived from Turkey late last night and was stoked to see potential for washing off some jet lag. Also excited to ride the new KT Dragonfly Surf 2 which is very different from my previously well loved Dragonfly 2, as well as the Nomad 830 foil. Wind was quite steady if a bit chilly, and the usual crew was out enjoying it. Great to see "newbie Grant" who is a true OG from the windsurfing (Olympic class) and kiting days, and one of the best wind and surf talents this island has produced. He used to ... (more)

Good 2 session day. Started with 6m and 1050 foil with PaulM, G, and NewGrant. Often underpowered and it was a struggle to lift and jibe on foil so I switched to all my biggest gear. The winds increased as soon as I switched, but it was tolerable. Fun carving with some short swell rides. Suffered a few kelp take downs. Impressive to witness the effort and commitment put forth by NewGrant. Clear newbie, but he's already working on jibes and already executing consecutive foiling jibes. Talent!

Sunday Funday. Crusiey session - wind was up and down, so wasnt pushing it too hard, had my longest constant foiling time at just under 20km. My trustee 5M finally gave in with the leading edge popping open like a can opener was used, easily over 100+ sessions on it, so it doesnt owe me a penny :) Thankfully swim in wasnt too bad.

Awoke at the lake to 15-18kts and low cloud. Ugh! made breaky, packed up van, decided it was getting lighter so took out my light wind machine, the Goya Airbolt 120. I can't say enough about this board, it gets up early with it's longer and narrower outline. Not quite a pencil board but still gets going in 10kts. My 6.0m Wing blew up on the beach yesterday so I only had the 5.0m and wind looked like it was 8-12kts. Cracked 100 km for the first time! Wind was in all night and stayed for the morning. On the water by 10 as it slowly dropped. Fun riding with Bobson, Slake and Machine again, at one point we all lined up and ripped across the lake together. Did a few speed runs but could never match Slake's superior speed. Another cruisy session with light but steady winds. Fun passes with Ang, WindJunky, GregCan, TunaCan, TnT, ColdSnap, and WindDoc. At one point I sensed WindDoc right on my tail so I attempted to demonstrate my newfound toe-to-heel gybe skills but failed miserably - classic stage fright. Ripped out to the Nat for what I expected would be foilable weather. Did not disappoint! Foiled up in kiteboarder land and practiced gybes, footstraps etc. Can't say I really like 'track' attachment method compared to the Tuttle which most windfoil brands have seem to standardize by now just from looking online. One less thing to consider tweaking at this stage lol.. successfully gybed once tho! Definitely easier with speed. Lots of wingers, Bobson, some kiters, and one windsurfer on the distance.

Swap. Stopped by the Windance swap and it was a little light on venders and mostly silly wing stuff. Headed to Swell City as an official season pass holder. Second to arrive and got rock star parking. Better yet there was solid wind a nice rolling swell! Took to the water and repeated the down and up to the point at the Hatchery and back. Local was saying how light the crowds are in town and thanked me for making the trip down. Nice way to start the day!

Wind came up for the second session of the day after a bit of a wait on the beach. Couple new things at the lake for me, went way up further up wind than ever before and also went around the island which was pretty sketchy with the logs under water and the fear of falling off foil in the shallow water. Fun riding with Slake, Bobson and Machine. Great dinner before a couple drinks around Bobson's fire before a good sleep. Wind blew all night.

Rain. French Toast for the crew at the overflow campsite at Maryhill to start the day. Wind check at the Wall, but the rain shut it down. Alex and Max headed north while the wind was turned off. Quick visit to Sam Hill's replica Stonehenge on the day after summer solstice (in the rain). Then followed Johnny and Heather out to Roosevelt for a later afternoon session. Wind ramped up to 4.5/92 as I was rigging and kept building to full flat while I was out. Small choppy swell. Seems my campsite at Tu ... (more)

Spend most of two sessions with Mrs Slake on the water, who is gybing and riding switch. She started the day riding the original Echo I had from '21, which still works (I have offered her to upgrade wings!).

Still super tired & sore, celebrex helped, but tide / wind were close to perfect. Sun came out too. My foiling gybe attempts went from total non-starter total flails to sail flipped/foot switched & over foiled mild crashes. Wish I didn't suck so bad at this :( foiling reaches were marginal power but easy as. Minor weeds. Cheering section left. Warm beach shower as decorated trump supporter truck pulled up. Time to go

The wind sport quandary- do you rig for the current conditions, or how you hope it's going to build up to?
Chose the latter, and was a bit light to start, but after a bit built to JUST enough for the 5m.
Some really good wave rides.
Neighbor Mike the kiter was out, and after a few a couple other wingdings came out to play.
Spit people slowly learning that when the wind is marginal, Pt.Holmes is a slight bit gustier and more favorable.

Spooked. Turnes out the Port Authority is now collecting the bridge toll electronically, so I picked up a transponder to get the discounted rate ($3.50 cash or $1.75 with transponder). Thanks to Dan for the suggestion. Wind check at the Wall. Crazy beat-up car with damaged grill, hood, windshield and roof that looked like something out of Mad Max movie passed bouncing around as we left the Wall! The crew then headed further east to Arlington. There had been site improvements to the launch since I ha ... (more)

Mmmm mmmm, RB just doesn't stop giving! Another fantastically joyful day playing in the swells with Rob, Ben, PaulM, Tugboat, and many other OGs. Felt lighter when I started so I went with my 6m and that got me up easily and not too OP'd. Thrived in some wonderfully smooth swell just beyond Clover. Lots of faux-flags with the wing luffing but ready to re-engage to avoid losing the wave. Switched to my old 5.3m Naish and proved it was still fully functional. 14th day foiling out of 20 makes June joyful!
