Ate my Twizzle-cakes and watched The Masters golf watching IV on the BWD Cam, strangely enough saw the BWD van on the Cam but with the low tide, sandbar and usual large waves at IV, I decided to wait and hope the wind filled in at Willows. Well, finally at 1130am it started filling in so jumped into the man-van and headed lickity-split to Willows. I arrived just as H-Rock was blowing up his Wing but no one else around. Lance, Greg & I got there too early. Waited for an hour but the wind line wasn't getting any closer. Went away and came back when it started to fill in. Nice session. I demo's Lance's 7m Stinger wing. It was perfect for the conditions. I liked the rigid canopy, and the carbon handles. I did find the wing a bit heavy. Fun Day!

Went out with same gear as yesterday. Wind and waves begged for the 3.5 and 999 combo, so came back in and switched. Saw a black head bobbing downwind - thought it was my helmet. Tapped my head to confirm. Nope just a fishing float. Out with the dream team of kites and wingers. Bin4 burger chaser.

Super fun session and my best wave riding experience at IV. With low tide and some swell in the channel, the sand bar was pushing up fairly long and predictable 2-3 foot waves. I was able to catch a bunch of them and it was a good chance to work on my timing and kite handling for getting into a wave and staying in it. The wind was mostly reliable for wave riding. Would normally have taken out the surfboard in these conditions, but wanted to see how the foil would handle it, prepared myself to get worked. Low tide so had to walk/body drag for a while to get to the deeper water. Lots of confused seas and current on the outside and some decent sized swell, ended up being lots of fun on the foil, the larger mast made it easier to get through all the chop, although a short mast would have been easier for surfing the shore break. Landed at pipes since Rowland rd was looking a little to knarly for me.. what a good decision that was. Hauled big blue off the spaceship and figured a 5.7 would be good in the lagoon. Got so close to planing I decided to get on the carve and try the smaller board finally. Boundary Bay delivered the goods today! I paid the price with some painful body slams and rinsing though. Super nice waves but the wind didn't really cooperate. When I launched it was 30 knots but shortly went down to 20, thankfully it ramped back up to around 25 but it was on and off most of the day. Was a bit challenging when it was light as the waves were X large for the Bay and I got pounded in the break a few times. A decent breeze despite the forecast. 6.5m would have been best but was eager to try out the new 5m Direct Drive KT wing. The biggest stand-out quality was the drive/power at the hard upwind angle and speed. Pinching where I would normally be stalling with the Slick, seemed to be able to sheet this in nice and get good lift, nice upwind angles. Up and out of the bay in a few tacks.

Arrived at 11:30am and watched for a bit and then MarkA showed up and schlogged out but felt like it was picking up so I headed out too. Foiled right off the beach in a gust. We both were foiling and schlogging a bit as well. More foiling than schlogging though. Mostly underpowered on 4M with some overpowered moments. Mostly frustrating trying to start while getting tossed around in the washing machine. When I did manage a wave it was super fun but got tired trying to pump up on foil in the lulls. Went in for a rest and 5M when I decided wind was back up and would repump up 4m just after I put the cap on bladder blew out, time to call it a day.

Big day! Extreme frustration with many falls and high speed smack downs, mixed with moments of glory riding big swell. I need a faster foil for these conditions. Missed, by a couple feet, colliding with a sea lion meat missile, oblivious to my silent foil.

Great day but a bit challenging. First half was lighter wind and effortless sailing on the small wing and big foil. Then it ramped up a bit and the swell on the outside got XL and felt like the OR coast at times. I fell a lot, sometimes spectacularly and it was hard to remount onto my foiling apparatus in the mayhem on the outside. Tiring but rewarding for those big swells. Good crowd with well behaved kiters.

Arrived to tanking winds but finally tide I wanted. Rigged 5.7/110 & planed out only for it to die off, sigh. Happy to get back I played on the bar sets for over an hour as they built. Rare plane out, slog n ride down, repeat. Wind ramped up, Hiho joined in and soon we planed more. Big gear took it's toll, Hiho rerigged, we got some great waves as my tank ran dry after dinner hour. Fun to have it turn on like that, magic. 1 macker made my day, sealions found it for me!

Well, that didn't work!
Noon, thought I would get a bonus local session in Mill Bay. Model 2 looked good with a SE 16kts and some white caps mid-inlet. Adequately powered with the 5.0 and 1250cm for about 30 min into a series of lulls. Upsized to 6.2 and 1750 foil. That worked for another 45. Reached the doldrums halfway to Pat Bay (2 miles out). Drifting helplessly for all of eternity, I wondered if I would run out of daylight :/ last a breeze pushed me back to my launch point.

Few sailers out when I arrived later in the afternoon. Decided on 5m, as it looked kinda iffy on inside. Thanks to my wing caddy BWD for carrying my wing down to the water - pretty good service this site is :) Super fun clover till it really ramped up and i was way OP'd. Wish we had swell like that every session! Not sure what happened with my track, Polar watch thought i flew over RB - can someone advise how to clip that part out if possible.

Local Season Opener. Wasn't sure what I was expecting, maybe the one in seven forecast chance on IGetWind of it switching SE, but E winds straight onshore low flooding tide weeds (!) is what I got. 14m and TT would have been the ticket today, boosty between sandbars. Couple of punchy, short-lasting 20knot gust kept my interest for longer than I should have, ran into a log and put a hole in my nice new Skater surfboard. Wha wha

Bobson and MtnarG were already out with 5m so I followed. Good choice. Getting through the shorebreak and swell was exceedingly difficult for me, such that those ashore were worried. But, I eventuallly made it out and was able to whoop it up with a remarkably slow Bobson. So slow, I could actually see his face when we crossed. Terrifying all around! Glad to be out in those challenging conditions with the crew!
