Timed it perfectly -- If you only like sailing for 15 minutes. Looks like it kicked back up a bit later after I left.
Huge thanks to BigD (shipping/receiving/freight logistics) and Tsawwassen (transportation) for getting a new board over to me from the delta. It got me motivated to come out in the chilly weather. New foil and new board all in one go... was definitely interesting. The short session was not ideal but it gave me some time to figure out what I might need to adjust for the next one. Gotta ... Arrived to great looking swell and some vagrant parked in my spot, but 5 minutes on the horn and he finally moved on. Great to see and sail with Tswawassen who got to experience all that RB has to offer including a swim at the end. Great swell for a while!

Joined the Ross Bay foiling club today! Great to see BWD and Tweezer again, and meet a few more of the Island crew, finally got to meet the legend Bobson! Also nice to see Keen out on his new board! It was my first time sailing since I'd injured my foot, almost 2 months ago, and I was nervous about going out. Had a few moments where I could still feel the pain but nothing serious, so super stoked I went out! I can see why you guys love this place, it was super fun! Nice easy launch and fun waves on the outs ... (more)

Brrr! Don't put the drysuit away yet.
12:30, marginal 8 to 10 kts in the bay. Waited 30 min with MtnarG for word from the outside. Bobson returned to shore and provided the intel. Adequately powered on the 6m for a few reaches then happily sailed back in moderate to strong winds to reduce wing and foil. H-Rock joined in as we rigged 5.0s. The afternoon crew arrived right on cue for prime conditions, 20+ kts with breaking swell at the point.
More of this please!

Arrived early. Bobson was on the water but appeared to be slogging. It was hard to tell since he went half way to Port Angeles looking for wind. It eventually picked up a bit, so I hit the water on the 8m. It picked up some more, and I was starting to really feel the gusts in the big wing so I came in to warm my hands (Brrr) and switch to the 5m. Perfect choice. Had two great sessions. Made a bunch of gybes in relatively challenging (for me) conditions.

Sunny and side off. Challenging conditions, felt out of practice and haventbyet dialed the lift gear. But got a few nice waves, one from frank island down to the rocks. Quite a crew of wind chasers. Drama on the beach with teen girl lost at sea, then found by a kiter hero at frank Island.

A quick after work session, caught the rebound for an hour, then an ominous black cloud moved in from the north, the wind shifted N and tanked. Was out off the Clover at the time bobbing in the swell, managed to eventually get going and fly past a waterlogged Grant, made it just inside the kelp line then had to paddle it in to the beach. Still a good session with some nice downwinders.

Slow to get on the water setting up foot straps and watching swell just get bigger. Failed with my foot strap setup, maybe third time will be a charm... 1 hour of fun till the wind shut down... had to leave for work, but heard it came backup for abit. Gotta love having this world class spot right in our backyard.

Back on the KT and loving it. Tried a new tail courtesy of Marty and that was pretty awesome too.
Everything was great until it shut down and went light offshore. Fortunately not the longest paddle, looked like a kiter might be signing the Trial Island guest log.

I thought maybe the cab5 may be too light a choice, but luckily I followed Idefix's, Greg's, and Mtnarg's lead. the 5 was perfect in the strong winds and medium swell. I tried to follow Idefix out beyond the point but was too intimidated so I stopped at the point. Tried to just foil some of the downwind swells to mixed results. I came back for a second session, but the winds reduced and it was tough getting through the bigger swells. Idefix and I called it a day. Cool to be out with such a big group!

Saw Model 1 predicted a shutdown at 3pm so arrived just after 3 to the shutdown, remarkably. Gambled on Model 1 continuing to be accurate with it building after 4pm and that too was correct, fortunately. Once it built to 4m conditions it was fun with the occasional big steep waves. Felt good getting in the groove with weight shifting fore and aft, dropping into troughs and having some very fast speed at times.
Noticed a small tear in the canopy near the strut when packing up. Everything's falling apar ... (more)

Arrived at the right time wind was picking up, second crash and my wing leash got whipped like a wet towel and ripped right off my wrist. Blew about 50ft before it even bounced on the water. Was just saying my goodbyes when Windoc went racing after it saw him jump on it several times and it just kept going . Could barely see him or the wing down by Trial island . Tweezer went to help and I thought they had given up when I saw Windoc foiling with my wing towing his wing headed to the beach. Thanks again guys ... (more)

Headed to RB after my IV swim and climbed back into my ice cold wetsuit. Waves were great but felt a bit tired and cold. Something felt off with the foil too, but checked and no loose bolts or fin covers so I guess it was just me. I felt every little bit of white water and the foil felt wobbly and a bit hard to control.

Bad judgement. Got there and it looked okay but disorganized with the low tide. Waited for about 30min and the waves cleaned up and decided to give it a go. Had a few runs and then the wind switched to S then SW. It was gusty but still doable with SB reaches parallel to shore. Then it went W and dropped below 10 and I realized I was a bit far from shore and drifting out to sea. Thought I might end up on DArcy Isl but made the long paddle in eventually but was somewhat concerned for a bit. Warm at least.

Session 2. I thought I was done, but it was earlier than I had thought and Greg and Idefix still had lots. So I joined in with with my Cab6. Greg yelled something at me that I couldn't hear. He was trying to tell me the 6m was too big. And was it ever. Super gusty offshore winds had us luffing way more sail than sheeting in. It was survival mode for this novice. Despite the terror, I learned the kind of winds that can still be winged regardless of the harsh conditions. Greg smartly headed in to escape the p ... (more)

MtnarG was already foiling happily on his monster 8m so I decided to follow with Cab6. As I was getting ready to put in, he came out and said he was grabbing his 4m. So I went Cab5 as Greg was going with his 5m. Good choice for me and I was able to do laps from CP to MTI. Fun playing in the swells with Bobson whoopin' around me, all smiles! Suddenly lost the wind and it was a pump back to the beach.

Logging this one has a sail-handling workout.
12:30. Arrived at the Tea House, following the morning OSR from MtnarG. Wind filling in nicely, I joined the locals in a SE 15+. An hour on the 4m/1250cm then a mid-day lull. I supersized everything and went back in for the afternoon westerlies with Greg and H-Rock. Probably should have heeded Grant's warning about the menacing front on the horizon. Conditions turned gnarly, gusting 25+ straight offshore. After a two-hour fight, things were getting emot ... (more)

Wind ramped up quickly. OP'd on the 5 so grabbed the 3.5. The swell built up in a classic RB froth. So much froth! Just one wing tried to escape. Wingdoc pulled off a slick recovery. Hootenanny!

Was a little 'tired' from golfing yesterday. Dragged myself to RB at 5:15ish. First run out my board felt off, but thought it was me. Few more tacks and really noticed something off with foil' came in and found my front fuse screw very loose making foil have a bit of play. Tightened up and got out for about 45 mins of unreal swell. Some nice groomed runners! I had a Smart watch from Bobson on but it didn't get my track for some reason? Will follow up with him why.
More tomorrow!!

Got about 2 runs in before the big front rolled through with big wind and swell. Chaos ensued, came across Windjunky whose wing was off wandering without him. Windoc & Tweezer were way downwind wrangling it, with Windoc successfully corraling it and herding it back to StCharles corner. Some Xtra large swell and Xtra wind today! ...but still freaking cold water and hands! More tomorrow perhaps?

Fun session. Tackled Windjunky's pesky AWOL wing that was happily cartwheeling toward Trial Island without him. Took a few attempts but managed to grab it and sail it in. Thanks for checking in, Tweezer! Good rides to be had. Wish I'd strapped up as ramps were great.

Not good. Got outside the bay looking for steadier wind outside (wasn't). Off and on and in a lull I feel back and BANG! Bladder blew right out of the fabric middle of LE.
Long paddle in to nearest shore, by Prince Harry's North Saanich castle. Tresspassed through a construction site. 2-3km chubby-guy-in-wetsuit jog back to van in Pat Bay.
Not good! But good to get in that situation and see how it is' Better there than somewhere riskier.

A little gnarly at the start - barely holding down an 8m in what felt like 35+ gusts. It was super choppy particularly off the end of Clover. Some nice periods in the lee on the flat water but it started to get light so went back to the west side whereupon the wind cranked again and the jit got sporty again. Saw quite a bit of gear go missing - hopefully one wing and one kite board will be located safely down wind somewhere. It was that kind of day. Just thankful to return to the grass with all my kit.
