Need suggestion for web page design
Hey all,
So here I am, it is Feb and Judi and I are thinking of Windfest 07. I desperately need to set up a web page not only for Windfest but also for the store as we have 07 Ocean Rodeo stock in the store and we are working on getting the windsurf gear as well. So I am wondering what programs to use to design this page(s). I envision a web page that allows flash, people to upload pictures (ie windfest 06), videos, etc, have a forum on there as well for comments, suggestions, volunteers, etc etc. Judi also has the webcam pretty much figured out so we would want to incorpoate that as well. I also have a weather reporting gizmo, that gives barometor, windspeed, etc etc, so I need to be able to painlessly enter/update that nfo on a daily basis. I have used macromedia's dreamweaver studio MX 2 years ago for the old web page, so I was wondering if you can use that and incorporate a program like this chat and gallery into the web page?? Any help/suggestions would be awsome!
Cheers
Dale

Hi KSD:
You are welcome to use this site for Windfest. I could add a separate forum for Windfest topics and a separate Gallery for uploading pictures. I'd be willing to host the webcam and weather info too. This would save you some time.
But it sounds like you want to do it on your own so here are some suggestions:
1. You will need a web host that will allow you to run php. If you go to any of my webcam pages, you will see two web hosts near the bottom right that are good ones. Expect to pay around $10 per month and up.
2. You will have to decide on the forum and gallery software that you want to use. The ones I use are free. Then you download it to your computer, upload it to your webhost and follow the instructions to configure it. For forum software I use phpbb, but a better one is smf. For gallery software I use coppermine, but there are others out there too.
I would stay away from flash. Once you get your forum and gallery set up then you add it into your own webpages. Send me an email if you have any further questions, I'd be happy to help out.
