2 carbon fiber footballs around heel spots and rails

what do you think Steve? I think half of the strength is already there from the wood ribs and deck so in order to keep it light only one layer of epoxy glass and the carbon. I can stand on it now and there is slight flex on the deck in spots between the ribs. I do need to do the seal coat since wood will bubble when it's epoxied. When I did my cedar canoe I found this big time.

nope. I'll destroy this one too, and learn from it to make it bomber next time. The graveyard of wrecked boards I have has taught me a bit about construction I hope. And I just cracked the yellow Slingshot almost in half this weekend

next board is coming along. the decks are so light and thin I'm cutting them with a knife! It is really interesting to shape a board from the inside out. this one has much more concave, and extra wood in the front side locations for grab rails to be carved out. this board will be made from about 5 2X4's from Home Creepo. One Spruce and 4 Cedar.

I thought I'd take some photos of this board in progress. It's the third one I've built and it's almost ready for glassing. Last one was 8.2 lbs with fins, pad and wax. I'm hoping to shave a pound off at least for this one. I widened it out about 3/4 of an inch from #2 for easier planing and left all the concave in the bottom. I took off the long pointed nose to give a better shape and drop 1 1/2 inches in length. The fin boxes were cut out of the decks with a knife before it was laminated on the frame so I could get it visually perfect without the router. I book-matched 4 of the cedar strips on the surface to show off 2 cedar "eyes". All this wood was on the side of the road on the way to Nitinat that a mill was discarding. I was fighting over it with another guy that was going to just burn it. I said give me all the little stuff with no knots and you can have all the rest. I'll stop in at the mill next spring and show him what his garbage made.

Actually I think I'm going for a 5'9" surfboard next , then a SUP. I'm not sure if I could figure out the forces a mast puts on a board!
