Just because it's not listed on the website doesn't mean you don't have to pay. The campground is ran and maintained by Dididat First Nations,
http://www.ditidaht.ca/parks--recreation/, not BC Parks.

It is posted on the ministry of forest website. And the band is working for the ministry of forest are they not? I would of thought the fees would follow the ministry listed fees. Not what some dude in a fancy shirt says he wants from me to park

This is still a ministry of Forests campground and as such all fees, rules and regulations consistent with said campgrounds apply. NO contractor (Ditidaht) can assess or apply additional fees.

However they can apparently bilk unsuspecting kiters/windsurfers of their cash!

We used to have a problem with this @ Renfrew. Ask for a receipt.

got a answer from ministry of forest
Hi David
The day-use fee just went into place last weekend. Thank you for letting me know that that info is not on the website yet. I will have that updated.

What is the justification for adding a "day use" fee? $10 is more than parking in downtown Victoria for the day.

I was shocked and disgusted at the new day use fee of $10 last weekend!
I think that $10 is way too high. For another 5 bucks you can stay over night and virtually get 2 days for $15 (or $17 on the water front side of the road). Max should be $5 since we're not taking up much space when day tripping.

Has anyone checked out the campsite further up the Carmanah Rd on the lake? I think it has some permenant residents, not sure of ownership or control. Maybe The Nitinat FSR Site as we know it is changing enough that it has lost some of its appeal.
I love it, but only get a chance to go either in June or sept normally so it isn't busy, or busy enough for someone to come out and collect...

Welcome to Nitinaht The band will own all of their traditional lands soon so they can mostly do what they want. Get over it and quit crying. NN goes thru phases but never really changes much. They had a fresh water system there 30 years ago.
You go there, you sail, drink beer, camp, sometimes you pay and you leave.
That's about it.

I agree it is pretty lame and borderline unfair that they are trying to charge $10 to get to a fairly remote, barely serviced recreation site. This isn't Squamish. I suppose places like Sombrio have a day-use fee, but that road is three times as long and steep as the one from the village and regularly gets graded so at least you feel like you are getting something. Oh, and the poop shacks are usually clean and stocked with shit tickets.
I highly doubt it was the Recreation Officers call to do this however.
