DWD - others are saying that the board with windsurfing does have a significant difference. I seem to remember a discussion on the SF Bay foilers about board design impacting getting lift-off and stability in pitch. I'll see if I can find reference.

Got an email from Windance today saying 2017 is the "year of the foil" and they are advertising windsurf foils. Pic is hard to see but you can use a board with a Tuttle box, deep tuttle OR even a powerbox with their plate system.

I know this was discussed earlier in this thread, but just realized this system allows you to convert existing boards to foil. Which makes it easy, albeit costly l, say to convert my 116L Fanatic FreeWave which is a powerbox?

I still have a $400US credit sitting at Windance....hmmm...maybe I buy this setup and then rent it out at Nitinat? It would make me paranoid watching people rippin' into the beach on this...just imagining what hitting something with the foil would do to a powerbox!!

Good vid. Interesting. He says a regular box will likely be toast after about 10 foil sessions due to the massive pressure put on the front of the fin box.

And seems the foil specific boards have much softer, rounder rails and no concaves on the bottom. For better landings when coming down from "flying".

Not sure I would risk a nice, newish windsurfer like my 116L Fanatic FreeWave. Maybe better to buy an old Formula or similar.

I am probly gonna sit this out for a few years. Until they get it dialled. Looks like JP and Neil Pryde are getting into it. I do predict foil will be the light wind choice for windsurfers who don't kite.

I would much rather put money into a foil windsurfing system instead of longer masts, bigger booms and huge (heavy) sails? And just have 4.2, 4.8 and 5.3 sized sails (my current quiver). With a 95L tri fin plus a foil board? Pretty lean quiver.

I was in at North Shore ski and Board in North Van today. They are stocking foils and say the Starboard guys are foiling on windsurfers at Cates Park in about 8 knots on 5.7M. Jibing is tough..but they say just sheet out, depower...when board drops to water, do a tack and go back.

Foilmount could be interesting...cause I am leery of the finbox add on foil system on my mint Fanatic FreeWave. Just wonder what kind of pressure this system would do to the base of my Fanatic SUP, as I am now thinking of converting my 120L AllWave SUP....it is 78cm wide, 120L...

I think this foilmount could be mounted in front of the existing A-box on the SUP, so you could still SUP surf it with the regular fins?

Thanks R.V. Notes: Special fin box required, regular boxes don't last more than ~ 10 sessions ... Mast is solid ~ 70 layers of pre-preg ... Foil is trimmed with thin washers ... Board is wide (80+ c.m.) with round rails for a forgiving landing ... N.P. gear engineered by "F4" in San. Fransisco

wow, seriously impressive you can peel and stick something that will take so much torque.. they do claim to have never lost a foil. you go first KC!

Keith the Robby Naish video the guys are on 5.7 from what I could glimpse. And a 4.7 in one shot. So still better than 7.0!!!! And I think light wind wind foil might be better than kite foil from the 'get home if the wind drops' point of view. And easier to learn. Marty was going to have one at the lake?
