I've heard mixed reviews for using this new go pro while kite boarding... its not tough enough, the casing isn't as protective as the #2 etc... anyone had a chance to use it on our rugged west coast? the #2 is on my Bday/ Xmas wishlist! should I make it a 3?

if you're doing a kite mount (strapping it to the strut) I don't really see how that would be an issue (you'd have to destroy your kite for it to hit something hard enough to break). (I just picked up a Kodak zx5 to play with for a kite mount for 1/4 of the price of a gopro)
That being said, for now lots of the features on the hero 3 black are so overkill I won't be bothering with it (my computer wouldn't be able to handle editing the video in half of the GP3's modes)

should we expect a new camera from GoPro every christmas??
I have the vented helmet strap but it has a weak buckle clamp so make sure to leash it! better to place a sticky on a helmet..
I am very happy with the GPH3Black and it's film is amazing... so much so that my laptop can't handle it. but the best option is filming while taking still photos every 10 seconds...
I've already busted the housing case by breaking the mount base by twisting the screw to much!
I'd like to see a better mounting base structure rather than the 2 prong plastic bits at the base...

Poor Playback Help: GoPro recommends using VLC Media Player (free) instead of Windows Media Player. Also see the other suggestions on their support webpage.

Thanks 4j.. but my laptop doesn't have choppy playback in the 1080 setting only when using super high resolutions. below from your link!
"For higher resolution videos (1080p 60fps and higher): We recommend at least 3.0 – 3.7 GHz Ivy Bridge processors (third-generation Core-based processors or AMD equivalent), 4 GB RAM, and a graphics card comparable to an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. The graphics card and processor speed is important particulary for 4K and 2.7K resolution video playback."
great camera everyone should get one this christmas!!!

Abetanzo I broke the mount and the case the first time I used my Hero 2. Had to get footage from Aus so bought another one. Broke 4 more mounts soon after that. They simply said "excessive use of force" and would not cover anything... be careful...

There seems to be many aftermarket metal mounts/cases for GoPro popping up to help combat breakage e.g.:

more money to spend...

An interesting list of aftermarket accessories
The polarized filter looks great.
