that incident was a couple years back, i think he had a broken pelvis in the end.
driving out to kanaha the first time, i was looking for kite beach, knowing it was just past the sewage plant. Turned out it was very easy to spot as there was a shredded kite up in a tree!

JL thanks for the heads up today. There were storm bursts and next time I probably wouldn't go out. I was waiting for a 40 knot gust to smack me. Although it never did, I was lofted (over the water) and the kite hindenberged. I hate that feeling so I packed it in. Just cruised in and hit the QR. At CB its shallow enough that you can QR the kite into the water and be in standing depth water.

I worked with a guy yesterday that had fairly recently fallen 100 feet to the first bounce, then several more bounce/rolls for another 100 vertical feet. He was walking well back from a cliff edge, climbing over a big windfall log, when its balance was disturbed, it slid towards the edge then the end dropped, catapaulting him into the air. His partner was in front of him (already crossed the log) and just saw a yellow blur of wetgear going through the air. He says he'd just cautiosly gone to the edge, holding onto trees, to peer down and thought "man it would suck to fall down that". A minute later.... He broke a bunch of bones, but not only survived but is working in the bush again. Best personal story I'd heard for a while!

Its surprising what accidents people can live through sometimes - then other times a seemingly small crash will be fatal.
