Does anyone know how to remove a broken batten from the newer style tensioners (not the obvious old belt and buckle type). I have an Ezzy sail with a broken batten and I can't see how to dissemble it. I can see a white chord in there which looks as if it holds the tensioning device in place. Hmmm.... Perhaps someone has taken one of these things apart. I'm thinking there must be a reasonable way to replace a broken batten as they do occasionally break. I've e-mailed David Ezzy but I'm terribly impatient as I know it will get windy if I don't get it fixed right away.

if its an 05, there is a tool velcroed on the foot of the sail right by the grommet, its just a small flathead screwdriver. if you back the adjuster right out maybe the batten comes out? ive never tried! good luck..

Hey Dave you're right. Mr. Ezzy e-mailed me at about 8 pm last night (!) with instructions for dismantling the tensioning device. Yes, you use the tool to pry the white chord from around the black unit (after backing off the screw). Then, with needle-nosed pliers you withdraw the tensioner. Then you try to remove the batten. Mine is broken just where it enters the tensioner so I've attempted to fix it. It cures as I type. I was pretty impressed with Ezzy's quick response.

Wow! Now he's sending me a new batten. Just like that. I think that's about the best customer service I've ever encountered. Makes ya feel kinda special. A lot of big businesses could take a lesson from David Ezzy. Just another reason to buy his fine sails, I guess.
