hey helmet cam dudes
I know nothing about video cameras.
Any suggestions on helmet cams from BWD, 4J, MF4, KUS etc?
I am looking to purchase some for work ( filming high speed rough water boating) and wanted to get some feedback on what your results have been after multiple uses.
Any suggestions on name and brand would be appreciated as well as comments on durability, waterproofness, image stability, video quality etc..
Are there any options for hd yet that any one has heard of?
Thanks form the toe side

I can only speak about the GoPro Wide HelmetCam.
For internet viewing it works well. It is only TV quality. A 2GB card records 56 minutes. The wide angle is
really wide. I like it, but it does flatten out terrain. The benefit is that it also reduces the effect of vibration/bumps.
Durability: great. Mine survived a few days rolling around the surf at CB. The lens was scratched, but GoPro sent me a replacement kit free of charge! It was still waterproof, but I did have a subseqent leak when I took it snorkelling. GoPro gave me a replacement camera for a very good discount (the warranty doesn't cover leaks).
I did find that sometimes the camera quits after getting knocked (usually by the mast). However, my replacement camera has not had this problem.
GoPro is coming out with an HD version this fall! It sounds great! I think you'll need a huge hard drive to go with it though...

For your use I'd also look at the POV1. It has a wide angle option that is not quite as wide as the GoPro Wide.

If its for filming work stuff, the nice thing about the GoPros is that they are so inexpensive. You can easily afford three or four and place them to get different camera viewpoints with both standard and wide angles. The GoPros are pretty simple, and don't give you viewing screens of what you are actually taking pics of, but I'd think the native quality would be adequate for most purposes. It tends to be way better than what gets downloaded and compressed to shared video sites. Just read the release about the high def version coming soon - that sounds awesome!
Can't do anything in the way of comparison with other brands, though.

Thanks guys- very good points. I checked out the gopro hero wide- looks great. Unfortunately the company does not know yet when the HD cam will be coming out, nor would they provide any details.. I think that if it does come out as 'hyped' it would be first choice. wait and see a few months...
Cheers!
