The windsurf launch is open.
The kite launch is open to very experienced folk who are able to jump off a pier and drift land only.
We had an amazing 32 knot day yesterday It blew from 11.30 till dark.
The waves were their normal small and relatively far apart, amazing speed runs yesterday.
Cloudy this morning but expect it to burn off by 3-5pm should be a 20 - 25 knot late afternoon.

AND The rescue boat will be there today

Thanks Matt, Rob and Sandra for all the hard work getting access to the water AND please keep up the daily wind/ condition reports .... they are hugely appreciated ..... we are coming to play soon

More like 25 - 30 I'd say, occasional tops of waves blowing off as spray. Great to see continual improvements at the site!

Wind came up around 2 pm a little gusty 25-30. Same old waves.
Like Greg said.
Hoping for the same today.

Here's the re-posted link regarding the accomodations in the Alberni area.

Port Alberni is the gateway to the west coast and an urban centre that has an infrastructure that can support tourists, travellers and adventure seekers of all kinds.

Campgrounds, motels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, lodges, hotels and RV parks, there's something for everyone:
http://www.albernivalleytourism.com/accommodations

Fat Salmon Backpackers' Hostel is very close to Wild West Watersports and would be a great option for some people http://www.fatsalmonbackpackers.com/

BC Parks is now taking reservations for summer camping
https://secure.camis.com/Discovercampin ... oastRegion

China Creek is a campground that many windsurfers have stayed in the past since it is located on the Alberni inlet and in the summer, gets those strong, consistent, thermal winds and great for a long downwinder to Wild West Watersports
http://www.portalberniportauthority.ca/en/node/13

Also, the Wild West Watersports site is close to Nitinat for a daytrip
http://www.coastalbc.com/wind/index.htm
'Out of towners' (coming off the ferry, or just off of work from south island) planning a Nitinat vacation, can get an evening session in at Port Alberni, prior to setting up camp at Nitinat. Lately, most evenings, the Port wind stays strong until around sun down (9pmish).

See you this summer!

Thanks for your comment, AC.

At this point in time, we are open for windsurfers and have an option for a $10 day use fee or $200 season's pass.

In it's current state, we do not want to encourage kiteboarders to the Wild West Watersports site. The launch is not safe or ready quite yet.

We will keep you posted.
And, it's hot today, so, Port Alberni will likely see wind this afternoon!

Sandra - Dave has added a WWW page to the sailing wiki, I've made a start but perhaps you want to edit / add.

Maybe see you through the week :)

Excellent, thanks! The sailing guide will also evolve and be a work-in-progress, like the WWW site (on the old plywood mill industrial site... wasteland to recreational/greenspace, including parking, rigging, and launch area). The ongoing support for this transition is amazing. We're doing a wind dance from all the positive stoke out there.
