Nitinat Trip #5
Arrived Monday at 11:30am(BC Day). Lots of people, the most I've seen at Nitnat although I have never been to a WIRED event. With all the talk about garbage and thieves I was weary about this trip but with 4 of the best days I've spent at Nitnat now done....the garbage and thieving wan not an issue although my watershoes are missing(CHRIS). Unloaded gear(Hyperdemonic/Xantos and Ezzy's 6.9 and 5. and parked on the road with everyone else. I packed lightly this trip having come from camping in Parksville for the long weekend, so lightly in fact that I forgot to pack my fins for the hyperdemonic. This proved to be a rather large problem considering they are deep tuttle fins and other than an offer of a 54cm fin from PHDewd, I was outta luck. I said No to the 54cm fin as I needed something a bit smaller and thought with all the people I would be able to find one. Not SO. I went back to PHDewd to try the 54cm fin and he had left so it was't looking so good. The standard tuttlebox fins only worked with 6 inch long bolts which weren't available. Oh well. Finally on the last day I resorted to a 56cm fin from another Chris(from Yellowpoint) which worked Okay and at least got the Hyperdemonic on the water for the last day and the lightest wind of the 4. anyways...Rigged up and got out on the water by Noon:30 with everyone else. Lots of windsurfers but not as many kiters as previous weekends this year. Came off the water at 6ish and half the vehicles had left. Nice, parked with Chris/Hilary/Hilary in a site all to ourselves. Nice!! Many people packing up and heading out still. Made KD for diner and went out to make some new friends. Met John/Tina and their kids as they were next door neighbours. Then went across the street and met Chris/Christi/Taylor/Brodie/Devon and asked what was for diner...HA!! I pretty much sponged off this wonderful family for the entire 4 days. Traded KD for chicken and potatoes and really, really enjoyed their company for the entire 4 days. I found on the drive out that I was thinking of them much and how wonderful they were to camp with. Said hello to Tom/Louise and learned that Tom would be putting on a jibe clinic all weekend as long as you were watching him!! Tom, I'm still not sure how to do the duck-360-backwinded-onehanded jibe thingy but with some more practice I might be able to....well.....at least say it properly!! HA!! I met many others which is partly why I love Nitnat soooo much. I think it rained Monday night just lightly after bedtime. I say I think as the 4 days have slightly blurred together like a yummy stew! It might have been the Scotch that Chris seemed to have many bottles of....HA!! Tuesday was fantastic and was probably the most tiring day of all. I was bent on getting my jibes down so at least I could plane in and out of at least one.....well, still more TOW needed but I'm close!! I got lots of waterstart practice as in the beginning I was falling at every jibe try. Waterstarts are money now though. HA! The new(to me) F2-Xantos II is a fantastic board. Very quick and works well in the large chop on the first two windier days. Probably a bit more than 20 kts on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday were partly cloudy and the wind built slowly but most people still got a good 4 hours on the water each day of 15-20 kts sailing. I usually was almost 1st on the water and almost last off but that's not unusual but not having brought the 9.0 and having forgot my fins for the Hyperdemonic I was usually 1st and last on the water schloggin' but at least getting TOW. Here are some of the high points of the 4 days.....
1. Almost making a planing jibe....almost!!
2. Making many new friends.
3. Playing cards with Christi one of the most beautiful Mom's I know.
4. Telling stories to Brodie and Devon.
5. Eating delicious food usually provided by others.
6. Getting lots and lots of TOW. More than 20 hours in 4 days. Nice!
7. Not being the A-hole(usually neutral) in a card game where a crazy German/Chinese man and a large high-5in sleepy man won almost every hand!!
All in All some of the most fun I've had at Nitinat this year. Big Chris, any idea where my water shoes ended up..?? Dude, you are a GREAT GUY!!! Hope to see you and your family again soon!
