My new board

Post by Tsawwassen »

My new Roberts board is finally done and I had to share the stoke with you guys on the Island. I designed the graphics, painted by Lucy Cameron and of course shaped by Rob Mulder. I hope I get to see some of you again on the Oregon coast this June.

Always nice shapes from Sir (Canada) Rob, I for one would be interested in learning your story behind the graphics.

Great looking board! Dims? Looks long-ish. Rob's a great guy; nice to see he's still shaping.

Thanks guys. Dimensions are 8' x 23" and the story behind the graphics is....I was up at Robs about a year ago and we were talking about Haida art and he mentioned how he would like to see some on one of his boards. So I thought about it for a while and figured an Orca would be cool and started sketching out some ideas, then transferred them to Adobe Illustrator.
I studied a bunch of Haida paintings and noticed there are usually a few creatures inside of one larger one so I added the Salmon as the Orca fin and the outline of 2 Ravens in the tail. Then when Rob had finished shaping it I got a photo of the board and adjusted the design to fit.

Hey Kus, I sent Lucy an Illustrator file and she used a projector to project the image onto the board then she hand painted it on. She also used stencils in a few sections like the black on the nose. Looking forward to sailing with you at Cape Sebastian again this June.

that's pretty impressive for hand painting  I thought maybe you had a vinyl decal made.
Yep, hoping June is doable 8) as the only time for me this year

Wow, she is a beaut - mazagine-cover material, or starring in a Super-natural BC commercial.
