Sad news: Sean Crickmer

Post by bwd »

Many of you know Sean from Nitinat (Mike C's dad):

CRICKMER Dr. Sean (Jan. 22, 1954 - Aug. 6, 2013) It is with
great sadness that we announce the sudden recent passing of
Dr. Sean Crickmer. Dr. Crickmer worked for 24 years as a
physician in the Emergency Department of Peace Arch Hospital.

He was a kind, gentle, and caring man who was loved and
respected by staff and colleagues. In his work as a
physician, he touched the lives of many people. Dr. Crickmer
graduated in 1986 from Queen's University's School of
Medicine in Kingston, Ontario and then completed a three year
residency in family and emergency medicine at St. Paul's
Hospital in Vancouver. He lived primarily in Whistler to
pursue his love of windsurfing and skiing. He worked for many
years as a ski patroller at Blackcomb Mountain. He is
survived by his loving wife Claire and his son Michael who is
currently studying medicine. He was a good man who was happy
with who he was and in the life he lived and how he lived it.
He will be greatly missed by his friends, staff and
colleagues and the community that he served.

A memorial service will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre,
14831 28 Avenue, Surrey, B.C, on Sunday August 18 at 1 p.m. A
service is being arranged in Whistler for Monday August 19 at 6pm

Sad news indeed. Our condolences to the family.
Marion and I enjoyed many great days at Nitinat with Sean and Mike.
Always helpful and so willing to share their campsite and campfire space!

From Mike:

Hello everyone,

The dates, times and venues have been set for the tribute events to celebrate the life of my father, Sean Crickmer.
You likely all know by now but, just in case you have not, Dad passed away sometime during the day of Tuesday August 6th at his apartment in Vancouver. The only detail I can offer you about this sad event is that it was attributed to natural causes.

There are 2 events planned.
The first is in Surrey:

Sunday August 18 at 1pm
Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre
14831 28 Avenue
Surrey, BC
Despite the name of the venue, the theme is one of a celebration of life. The organizer for this is
Kerry Yoshitomi 604 760 6350

The second event is in Whistler:

Friday August 23 at 6pm
Fairmont Chateau Whistler
4599 Chateau Boulevard
Whistler, BC
Tel 604 938 8000
(This is also the Triathalon weekend so accommodation might be limited. Highway closures are scheduled for Sunday August 25 for that event but no specific highway disruptions on that Friday or Saturday)

I hope to see you all soon.

Mike

My heartfelt condolences, Mike and family. I always thought the father-son duo at the lake was very special and seemingly a man after my own heart.

Yes, I heard this a couple of days ago. Much, much too early. I'm very sorry for your loss. As I am reminded so constantly these days it seems:

Mike and family, deepest condolences extended to you. Mike, your dad always struck me as someone who had much of life figured out yet he somehow remained very humble and unassuming. He was kind, friendly, and clearly stoked. He'll be missed in our community.
