Vancouver Island is one of my favourite places to windsurf actually! The trip I did 2 summers ago was really cool, and I've been to Nitinat a couple of times before that too.

I hear rumours that there will be some windsurfing event at Squamish mid-August, so I plan to be there for that, and who knows..maybe sneak off to Vancouver Island after that? ;-)

Phillip, how do you get there? I know you say no direct flights, but when I search skyscanner or expedia it shows no results for flights at all.

Cheers

well you could fly but there are also car ferries that leave Nanaimo or Victoria and get you over to Vancouver, you can then drive a big and expensive four lane highway paid for by all taxpayers of BC (well for years to come anyway) for overpriced contracts that were arranged in backroom deals for the personal Olympic Bid known as Campbell's Last Grand Adventure.....it gets you to Squamish in a hurry. It's on the way to a very glitzy ski area....my kids and I cannot afford to go there but I hear it's nice...

or did you mean El Yaque?

Sharon and I have been a couple times. Not exactly quick and easy but still a fun place to go. From here-Toronto-Caracas-Palomar. We have only stayed at the Beach hotel which is right above the Vela there. Very convenient!

Hi Tempy,

Yes, just fly to Caracas airport, then it's easy to arrange an island flight to Porlamar from there, at the black market rate it's about $10-15US return at the moment. You don't even have to leave the airport, just cross inside the airport from the international to domestic terminal.

Use a travel agent from El Yaque to book your island flight. There are a lot of flights per day between Caracas and Porlamar.

Either Venturi Travel or Viva El Yaque can help you with booking

:D Thanks, maybe when I retire, need to get over my fear of sharks if I'm going to be swimming that much. By the way hatteras looks sharky...

Good luck on tour! And we should be seeing you in June.
