Ross Bay

Ross Bay had way more wind than it looked (well, sometimes it was nearly dead, so it looked like that). Other times the 25kt + gusts But I could'nt see how it looked anyway because I had misplaced my contacts and could barely find the beach (in fact, I ended up at the reefs at the east end one run). Interesting to sail a new spot and not see. Last few runs I took a chance and wore my glasses - funny how much less gusty the wind got then
Anyhow, a couple of solid hours mostly fully powered, some overpowered, on a 5.8. One gybe nearly planed through -- booms were in the right place and I was only off plane for a second or so -- nice! Didn't carry enough speed into most of my jibes, ended up falling to the inside or getting tipped in by the chop when stopped. I should have done more runs, but I somehow forgot to move my lines foreward every time I had the chance . Too much fun trying to prejump the ramps (blind on a big board!) and powering back climbing up, over, then screaming down with the big chop and over the next wave to worry about balanced lines. Burned my front arms out, but worth it!
Cook must have been nice, I'd like the smoother wind if the shore break wasn't intimidating (and I'd really have to be able to see there).
One boot Bruce was on a 120 l board and a Retro 8.0, which was more than enough! Hats off to Bruce for not letting misplacing half his equipment (in some cases, exactly half his equipment ) after a move from Vancouver stop him from getting out!
