Details | Arrived to not much and 4 Wings out all schloggin'. Grant and Ang and 2 other young fellas. I saw some promising gusts coming through so decided to rig the 5.2m Flyer and wanted to try out the Super Cruiser Foil today. 1700 front wing, 500 stabilizer and 102cm fuse on the 125 liter board. Decided on the 95cm mast as I was predicting large waves and lots of wind. The 5.2 was good for 30 mins then it cranked up to 20+ so came in and rigged the 3.7m Goya which was the right call. It was up and down for the next 90 mins but never an issue to get flying with the huge 1700 front wing although had to pump through a few lulls. Wind was weird up and down the whole time. The Super Cruiser foil was very different than my regular 1100 front wing and super long 115cm fuse. It was very slow and very lifty. I had issues with that fuse not giving enough lift because the front wing is situated quite far back compared to what I'm usually sailing with so I put on the 500 cm2 stab and a +1 shim to give some more lift. well, the lift was just right but it felt like I was dragging a piano around. I stayed pretty close to the beach today as I didn't want to get too far out as I wasn't sure of the foil set up so wanted to play safe. The foil setup will take some more tweaking to find the sweet spot but today wasn't it. it felt like a lot of work. Well, except for a couple of turns coming down a big wave and with the sail flagged out it was very surf like on the board. that was the fun part, the rest was a bit of work. More testing needed. Danno came and joined for the last 30 mins with the rest leaving and just as I was packing up Just John showed and headed out on his 3.5m is 25+ and 10 mins later it lighten up to maybe 15kts ish so I left. Maybe tomorrow morning..?? BOBSON OUT!! [from Sailing Log on Thursday January 12, 2023] |
