Iffy start as I watched GregCan just foiling on his downwind runs. ThePope and I joined with our big wings and happily, the winds increased and we were always up on foil and the big wings were even occasionally OP'd. Got some nice flag outs and had some fun chase the Twizz runs. Great to have the Lancer back in the swells. Sometimes gusty and holey and I found a dead zone out beyond the Clover swell section. Fun session regardless, and the sun came out and made it very summery.

Arrived at Clover to cranking wind. Rigged small with a 5m and foil and headed out. Definitely dropped after I struggled through the Ross Bay kelp and managed to get upwind to Cook St. The wind started dying about 30min into the session and had a few sketchy gybes that would have resulted in a long swim. Managed to get in and after a few mins the wind started cranking again. I gave Davey_k and Nick a wave and signalled I was heading back out. It was much better the second time around.

Weird wind, weird water. Gusty and unstable, super low tide with a big flood starting which made for a challenging session. Started in Ross Bay with an epic struggle through the kelp to get to clear water. The wind felt very unpredictable so went over to the west side where it was much stronger but with just as much water moving around. Fun as always.

I saw the clouds clearing and headed down for a session. It was good 12m wind when I was setting up but it backed off as I launched. It was still good enough and I headed out along the beach. It was quite choppy heading away from the beach but heading towards the beach it was fun cruising. I managed one tack and slashed a few swells but there wasn't a lot interesting swell to engage with. Still, it was a beautiful afternoon and a lovely session until the wind lulled significantly. All the kites, but f ... (more)

Iffy conditions from the outset so it would be inappropriate to whine. Did my best to grab every puff I could. Wind in the bay created the sense of potential further out. That cost me a long paddle in. Sinkers don't easily take off 5 five knots apparently. Wind came back up for another 15 mins and then I called it a day.

Not much progress on gybing or toeside today -- need to work on that. Great vibe at the beach. Congrats to Tweezer on his upcoming retirement!

    Well, i officially win Tuesday.

Not because I got out foiling twice ( short sessions in SW squalls), although those were fun - but because for the second time in 1.5yrs, I got to wingding with orcas :-)

Three of them, 2 adults and a juvenile- and when i came off the foil in a lull, the youngen came over for a gander - too cool. Just too bad i didn't have the camera rigged up.

Actually took 3 tries over the course of the day to get foiling- first 2 were the definition of insanity- think there is enough wind ( ignoring the anemometer saying otherwise) paddle out, drift around, come in. Repeat 4hrs later.

Wind finally did come in late afternoon, and was a good steady SE for some good rides.

Might have to go back to "secret spot" though- was 2 other wingdings in my bay! The Horror!

Whoa that was unexpected awesomeness! Almost right away OP'd on the 4.7 so switched to 4.2 when it amped up some more. Found some beautiful waves deep in udderland, many green roofers and some near the point at the end. Had to call it quits before the wind did! Low tide is the new high!!

A family errand to Nanaimo served as the perfect excuse for a quick Pipers session. Lots of signs of big wind from the SE on the way up. But, I got fooled at the Pipers parking lot where it felt like a 4m. SE felt weird and weakish, gaining me just one foiling run. I switched to a 6m and all was well and even occasionally OP'd as the gusts beyond the light was pushing me around. I played near-shore to ease my foiling solo anxiety. Fun session. Swift breeze at the beach and caps mid-inlet, worth rigging! A SE in Saanich Inlet produces a light swell in Mill Bay just big enough to ride and that's what we got. Adequately powered with the Cab 6.2/1250cm, the 5.0 would have worked but sailing solo I added a meter of sail for a safe return. Tried to sail up to the Yarrow Point mark but chickened out half a mile downwind of it because the breeze getting lighter and I was a long way from the launch, of course it built half way back. Japan jet-lag had me snoring through the morning wind; Afternoon shift to maximize walking time with the low tide. Mile Marker almost completely out of the water, and the low tide helped maximize weed exposure.

Timed the switch perfectly to have just not quite enough juice with the flood tide, and when some fun gusts came through, the weeds did their job to help with the fuckery. A shame, as there were some fun little waves breaking onto the outer bar.

With OB 1/2 Marathon cutting out Willows/CP and Super low tide making IV difficult launch/land. So I decided on the drive out to Sidney and Foil in Bazan Bay. Parked just South of Tulista Park along Lochside Dr. as the launch there is pretty easy on super low tide. With strong (20+) wind making a beach launch dicey, decided to go to the spit fishbowl- after what seemed like weeks away.

Was good to practice some flatwater turns - especially toe-side - I've gotten into the habit of switching feet before the gybe, hence i rarely ever ran toe-side and was way out of practice- especially in gusty conditions.

And when (if) i ever get a tack, will probably be helpful.

For most of the session, was just me and what seemed to be 4000 leaping kiters.
