Was excited to try my new spitfire 900 but wind was barely enough for 1150. So went out to wait for more wind shlogged for a bit until it picked up fun enough(so much crap out there). Wind finally came up enough for the smaller foil so went in and swapped. Spitfire was very fast turned well but did have a higher stall speed than I'm used to, especially when trying to slow down to avoid kelp. Still need to dial in on the board but the short time I had on it I think it will be a lot of fun once I get used to ... (more)

First time in the water in a while. Had high hopes for a stoke renewal session. So much crap (grass, seaweed, kelp, sticks, logs, planks) in the water and something off with my setup resulted in the less desirable anti-stoke. Packed it in early to save my sanity. At least it was warm.

Classic Nitnat day, fog bank and blue skies. Windline showed up at 10:30am and it was instantly on. Everyone was beat by 3pm even though the wind kept on blowing. Had a long break and hit the lighter sunset session with KC7s on my 7.0 to close out the season. Lucky to get one more full on Nitnat day this year!

Lil'b hitting all the waterstarts and planing on the RRD, punky practising on the Carve 131 and KC7s Levitating!

    Until next year!

Arrived a tad early (3pm), so had to wait till about 4 for wind to finally make it around the point. Got to practice flying at max mast height at all times to avoid the lurking kelp, but that didn't stop the weed masses, eel grasses, sticks, logs, and lumber cuts from trying and often successfully sending me flying (negatively!) Still was a great time as the swell made up for it all with some really nice downwing surf. Big turnout, lots of new faces, winter is coming! Woohoo!

Arrived grumpy from being in a first aid course all day knowing that G was cranking and RB seemed anemic. For once it picked up as I was rigging. My initial grumpiness intensified as eel grass, kelp, wood, and other flotsam littered the playground and fouled the foil. GPS died early. Swell just got better and I started to just ignore the extra drag from the eel grass being collected. Some of the best rides in weeks and nice to be be back on the long mast and 1225. Wow the wind came up fast this morning. There was a fog bank and I guess that is why. I put away my camping gear and setup my 10m hoping that it would be enough. Well sure enough it was for the whole day. I started with my Tiki and did a half hour. It was cool and could easily cut the chop but I could see that the wind and waves were calling for a surf board. I came in a grabbed the new Duke and proceeded to have a blast. Besides the excellent wind swell which gave me lots of slashable waves, I also ... (more)

Great to be back on the water again after almost 3 flightless weeks! Nice gusty, holey typical Willows winds. Gusts were frequent enough to be up and foiling quickly. The playground was the most consistent play zone. I tried out Lancer's 7m Stinger and found it stiff, strong, and predictable. The downsides were size and weight. Cumbersome to gybe with in lighter winds for my novice skill set. The wingspan was a bit long for my hobbit height so there were lots of inadvertent submerged tips. Switched to Cab 6 ... (more)

Nice to get out nonetheless. Unfortunately my repaired tail must have cracked worse at Hood River and/or from the kids clambering around back there and broke entirely in half. Mostly frustrating just up on foil or close and another hidden kelp would send me over the handlebars. Even got pulled off on my knees. But also one stretch of great wave rides. And some successful swerves to avoid logs or kelp. But mostly crashed. Early had biggish really close steep and breaking tide chop, but it smoothed out later. Wind also got better. Met Rupert having a coffee at RB. Pretty light but improving. Then Shaggy dropped by. Rupert decided to save his energy for tomorrow. Shaggy went to the point to take a closer look. I went out and managed to fly over top of the kelp and work up to the point with the help of the current. Foiled for a few tacks and then it died. Waited it out and got another 30 mins but no shaggy! Pumped to shore where slake was rigging. Tried again with slake but no go. About an hour of warmup for tomorrow-crossed fingers!

Last on the water and second to last off. I must be feeling old I am often late to go out and have fun but tend to stay out there till whenever the wind or heat wears me out.

Several Kiters were out much of the afternoon, and Bill too, though the wind may not of been quite enough. Still can't get this board to plane thru a turn but I stubornly keep trying. Snap jybes in & among the right small wave sets are a satisfying alternative to making this craft feel like the race machines of my younger yea ... (more)

This was not a "Session" it was a cruise!!!. Sessions are for surfing and rip snort high wind fun.

Twas the first early evening after 2 days of wetness and an empty campsite. Cruised up to Picnic Pt on two tacks then dead downwinded to the Federal Hatchery headwaters then back upwind two the little island where I saw the rumored sealion sleeping on rocks. Wind was best upwind of the creek but overall it wad just a mellow bit of sightseeing on an empty lake.

Was nice to meet old timer Vi ... (more)

Windy Tranquility comes to mind.. After yesterdays on-water heyday of 20+ Workin the Wind today was very quiet & peaked with ~ 3 on the water. But the wind stayed consistent despite the clouds & late afternoon drizzle . One could of sailed 5 hours if they wanted though 20 knots it was not. The 8M has been too big a sail really, a 7m is probably about right for us 200 pound sailors in these conditions.

At the end I took the Surfsprint longboard & 8m & headed 1km upwind of picnic po ... (more)

Beautiful sunny September day, well worth the day trip! Arrived and it began to blow shortly after around 12:30. Judy and I both out winging, worked on my weak stuff - starboard/goofy heelside tacks; goofy toeside to heel port jibes; goofy toeside port tacks. Hardly anyone on the water down in front of old camp, about 10 kites up off elevation, 6 wings total, 2 slappy windsurf boards. There was weird red long and wide streaks down the the lake visible from shore, looked like it was just algae bloom (red t ... (more)

Sat was another cloudless windy day here. And nice to be out in it with 1 other windsurfer, ~6 wingfoilers and close to 20 kiters.

Still a lotta work to get a tailess flapper brd up on a plane with a 6m and its tail walking a fair bit unless I switch to a slalom fin. Not sure if I can but I need to learn how to keep the board on a plane thru turns. The hollowed out tail digs in hard and she stalls on me with no floatation or planing surface behind the big fin. Perhaps its easier to plane thru turn ... (more)

Last minute decision to go to the lake. I am so glad I did. The trip up and back were really low key, not a lot of traffic. Got to the lake at 11:30 and went for a walk up to the river and had the place to myself. So beautiful. I threw five stones into the river. The wind was coming and I watched as the march of whitecaps went all the way down the lake. I then grabbed my gear and setup. I didn't need my really big kite today as the 12m was lots of kite for the whole day. I did 1.5 hours on the Tiki ... (more)
