I made it here via China Crk on the water just as Bobson was coming off. Three hours on the "fun" board in moderate fresh winds and my whole body aches. I am out of short boarding shape & skill for sure and had to slog 15+ times trying to pump my 27" flapper board up on the plane. Lots more rig & fin tuning and sail sizing smarts needed if I'm gonna carve n go or carve & stay on the plane as I should be.

Hopefully there will be 3 or 4 days of good sailing here in the com ... (more)

Last Day of my week at the lake. Cam arrived late last night and came right over and offered me a beer. Nice!! Up early for breakfast then packed up the campsite and out on the 7.0m Flyer for the first 40 mins then the wind picked up to 15-20 so rigged down to the 5.2m Flyer. For the first hour and a half there was only 1 other kitefoiler (Gerry) on the lake with me. Sunshine and lots of room to turn. HA! A couple wingers and a few other kites finally came out but I'd had enough after 75kms and called it as ... (more)

Evening flooding tide to about 3 metres. Not enough wind and/or wave made for more rides lost than had. Osprey was out fishing! Patience, persistence, humility, and gratitude were all required and used. A few single hit rides, but definitely less than I was hoping for. Still nice to get the windsurfing gear wet and a nice way to spend the evening! Curried chicken from Picnic for dinner fireside at the campsite!

First time to the Gorge! Down in Portland for work so came out for the night. Arrived around 5 to what looked like 50 or more people on the water. About 20 knots. Some sort of event at the event area. By the time we checked in and got some supper it was 7 and dying, only 10 or so people on the water. Went out anyways and boy it felt good to finally have some wind and foil again. Looking forward to a windy Autumn hopefully.

Wow!! Amazing day!! Started at Noon on 7.0m in 10-12kts which lasted for an hour then it picked up to 12-15kts when I switched to my 5.2m Flyer for an hour then to 15-18 for the last 2.75 hours. There was a dip at about 3pm down to 10-12 again and I was on the 5.2m so had to be careful and gybe in the gusts and pump my 'A' off a few time but never came off the foil. That was a record for me. 155kms all foiling. Sweet Georgia Brown!! Got the first 100kms done in 3 hours flat. There are 3 rules for Windfo ... (more)

I think this was my 500th Foiling session. WooHoo!! It took me 3 years and 3 months to get to 500!! I think I might try this 'Wing Thing' now.

Rained all morning then stopped at 1pm and inflow, 4-6kts. Then at 3pm it picked up to 8-10kts. Headed out and got foiling immediately. Almost made it up to Knob Pt. But then it died down under 8kts so I schlogged for 5 mins, caught a gust and foiled again. 30kms in first hour and 15 in 2nd hour. One Winger who looked a lot like AJ'?? Wing practice with T inside the lagoon. Surprisingly fun! Kona One works really well since it has the centreboard, but the Starboard SUP worked too with just a big windsurf fin (no stick-on centre fin needed). We learned that the lagoon is deep enough above a 3m tide, but 4m tide would be better; less grinding the fin. So fun to play with T in this beautiful place, which I love so much. This is where I learned to windsurf 40 (ahem) years ago. I think I have photos somewhere of me on a Windsurfer One Design ... (more)

I had a good Tiki session to start and then had a go on the Duke. The place was all my own for my hour long session. I came in and two other kiters had arrived. Well that was mostly frustrating. Looked windier than it was with the S in it. 90percent slogging for me. Ran out of oomph to pump and then seemed like enough wind but I still couldn't get going. Realized the wing was a soggy spring with low pressure. Came in and pumped it up and went out solo but didn't get going. Checked pressure at end and had lost 2 psi in about 15 minutes. Must have a pinhole.

Great Day!! 10-15 for first hour then 2 1/2 at 15-20. 6 kites and 3 Wings and ME!! Went way up the lake and it was flat, sunny and beautiful up there. My favourite spot. On the water at 12:30 back in at 1:30 to rig down and change foil from 1000 to the 1100. The 1000 has great glide but wants to go fast and is twitchy when not running it hard. The 1100 is much more fargiving. Warm sunshine and wind, sweet!! Off the water at 4pm for Coronas and chips on the beach watching the other 5 kites still out there.ps ... (more)

Another light wind day. Started off at 11:30am in 10-12kts, Tweez followed me out and wanted to race. Then the Notorious D.O.G. Came out, followed by Mikey Baker. We all foiled around using whomever fell as a gybe mark, sooo much fun'.. until I fell!! Yes, that's right people, close to 200kms in the last 2 days without getting wet and I hit something in the water and went over the handlebars and all of a sudden everyone on the lake was going around me!! Ugh!! There is definitely going to be a seal or ve ... (more)

Is it Windsurfing?? Yes but as much a whaling watching and fish jumping expedition and skill test as anything.

Sailed to Neck Pt Park, hiked over to Sunset Beach, then threaded the Neck Pt needle on the rising easterly . Big recreation fleet out fishing. South bound Whale sightings for the second day in a row. Transients must be on the move Or? Pretty and sunny out. And on my return to Pipers SE whitecaps start breaking out.

After timing it perfectly to get smashed by the one large shorebreak dump of the day, got out to no swell and very little wind sat around for a bit until wind picked up and finally got a couple puffs until wind filled in. Zipped around for a bit hoping to see some of the swell that was around fishing near cape Beal the day before but nothing just flat water.

Pretty light wind day. Lots of pumping!! Started out at 11 in a rain squall which killed it so came back in. It 'ramped up' to 10-12kts so went out on the 7.0m and then it was up and down all day from just enough to not. At 5:00pm it ramped up to 12-14 which is when I was completely exhausted so pulled it and sat on the beach with a bucket of Corona's on ice and watched the Winger pumping the crap out of their Wings except The Twizz and who did one pump and was up gliding around with the entire ULR fa ... Inaugural session at Canal. Ended up being a bit of work to figure out what to rig. Started with the fin then went to the foil and finished with the fin. Wind wasn't super steady but really ramped up early evening. Boats everywhere!

Full day at the beach working on gear.. One winger made the morning westerly on a delayed 15kt forecast Nw lasting 2 hours then dropped to a steady 10 -12 all afternoon. An Orca pod passed thru around 11am.

Finally made it out at 7pm on the late afternoon sou-easter.. Down to Stephenson Pt and the entry to Departure Bay and back. Wind switched to dead offshore at twilight. Same as Sat night.

Fantastic day trip with Dave C. It started with a side trip to the waterfall for some swimming and diving into the waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful. At the lake shore it was pretty low wind but we kept faith. And we were rewarded with enough wind for big kites and big boards. I had my best Tiki session to date because of the decent wind and the very flat water. It was awesome. All in all a great day. I saw a big black bear too!

Sunset at Clover in the very lowest end wind for my set up. Almost impossible to stay on foil through the gybes but once up and running managed to stay flying. Was concerned about the kite staying in the sky and not wanting to swim in the dark, called it after 30min. No swim in the end.

Day 2. Changed to HS1550 and moved foil all the way back. Big difference. Needed a bit more speed to fly (still not much) but it was much more controllable once hovering. Played in the flat water close to the beach. Had a few longer flights, but still not quite in control. Easy to stay upwind. So warm! Chased five big salmon just under the surface on one reach...almost could have tackled one. I need more days like this to improve!
