An awesome surprise. Unconvincing conditions at first. Things just got better as the afternoon progressed. Not much swell but it wasn't actually that bad. Tons of junk in the water. Struggled for a bit getting stuck in some weird patches on the way back in. Stopped acting like a moron and things got better.

No smoke today! Wind came up fast and hard at 10:30ish cutting short the wing lessons for daughter and bf. It was cranking 3.0m wing weather with lots of the weirdly green organic colored waves and swell happening. Nice swell trains formed and rolling down to the end of the lake. Fun in the blue sky and sun!

Finally found the back footstrap :D what a game changer. Handful of windsurfers on the water, but mostly kiters and wingers out there. What a great day. Hole appeared in the 5.0 earlier so once the wind died down i was out of luck. First sail patch here we go! At least no broken nose this time.

The plan was to try out T's brand new board tow foiling. It ended up being windy enough to use the 5m. Steep learning curve. I think I figured out the wing. Foil not so much. Some uncontrolled short flights then stalling or impressive acceleration then crash! Such a different sensation for this foil newbie. Hard to figure out what weight movement or foot placement does what. By the end I was getting closer to figuring out the foot sweet spot and I was able to stay upwind slogging. Ridiculously little speed ... (more)

Great session. Didnt look all that exciting when I arrived, but wind was consistent and picked up few knots once I hit the water. Nice high tide seemed to make the kelp manageable. Smashed a log at a pretty high speed and luckily avoided any damage to the fancy Armstrong mast. Swell got better as the session went on and it was nice to mix it in between jumps. Really cranked a few heelside tacks, you can lean over into the wind and help get the board on an aggressive angle - feels great, alllmost like a surf ... (more)

Started with my 10m and had a few good tacks but then the wind lulled and I decided to come in for the 12m. That was plenty of kite as the wind came back up. It was quite choppy and lots of small flotsam and weed. Riding the Celero was not awesome in those conditions and it slaps so hard in the chop. Having said that there was some nice smooth sections and some nice swell waves but I only got a few opportunities. Nonetheless, the wind was warm and steady and that led to a really good session all in all ... (more)

Smoky but enough wind to get out on the final day of this trip. I ferried up once for the other half and she sailed for about 2 hrs and came back on her own. So good! I didn't bother with stinky starts today, just fun on the 88L board. The wind was pretty light but still playful, and just enough power with the 4m wing. Bumped into ULR while we were rigging down and getting ready to leave. Recognized the helmet, face, and bumping into him at Nitinat 2021, when I was just learning to get on foil and he ... (more)

Day 2 of 3 at nitty. Many wing lessons to my daughters and their bf's before managing to get out on the last gasp of wind for the day. Light wind so practiced some downwind 360s, starboard heel tacks, and flying through lulls as slippery as possible. Saw Slake (Doug) on the beach and had a good chat. Spied Mtnarg (grant) with his big big fone 8m. Tweezer too has appeared and of course doing all sorts of freestyle wing spinny things. Still quite smokey but great to be at the lake getting wet!

3-pete. Rigged 4.5 but got distracted with orcas (breaching and flipping!) and board searching. Returned to much stronger wind. 4.0 was fully powered to overpowered. Forgot the 77L at home! Always bring all your gear.. Fun Jumps and rides on the 96L though. Feeling spoiled with the daily windsurf hour. I don't remember ever seeing 8 continuous sailable days at Pipers. Sweet Pipers NW!
Another late game decision with 20 kts confirmed at Entrance Island, whitecaps on the webcam this one's in the bag!
10:30 the old pine screaming 30, good swell in the bay. Glowing reports from the returning fin crew, I rigged accordingly. Fully powered on the 3m for the first half then up to 4.0 for tack training. 1m swell in and outside of Clark Rk, no need to get too far pass the point for smoothies.
Good practice in the safety of the bay with some progress on the tack :))

Got in the water at 7:45 AM. Looks like everyone slept but had 4 to 5 regulars in the water by the time I left. Gusty conditions. The bay was filled in with lots of puffs from the moment I got there. It only got more intense as the morning rolled by. By the time I got out of the water two hours later, there were whitecaps all the way to the beach. There was some half decent swell with some great conditions to surf back to shore in the crosswind. awesome session, lots of turns, sore arms.

Alton Jr (8m+surfboard) and I (12m+surfboard) scored an epic afternoon wave session starting at Tolmie then beating up to Acadia then Tower Beach in steady W 18-25 with clean head high waves with glassy 60' spacing. Alton Jr did better than I and made it up to Wreck Beach. I would have joined her but being frequently overpowered on 12m was exhausting. Should have taken the 8m and put Alton Jr on the 5m. These were some of the best bottom turns I've had in a long time. Nobody was around so it felt like we ha ... (more)

Nailed it, sweet session. Launch at 1030 in huge lull, so floated the gear 1/2 way to dog beach before it came back strong at 11. Glassy swell to slog through before the wind line near shore. Lit up and first reach powered! Up to join Phil and swell at the last freighter. Then private Idaho further North before the big downwinder.

Started 4 and it was almost always overhead and rattling. Fun on the swells but too scared to flag out and ride downwind. Came in for the 3, took the windsurfer out instead but then went to 3. Had trouble getting it going. Went back to 4 at end and had a mellow 20 or 40 minutes mostly inside though there were still some swells rolling through

Pipers served up a fin board meat between wing bread slices for my 70th birthday sail (the day is tomorrow but the sail was today). Went out 4.7 and it was gloriously powered but a beast to clear and get going. Hadn't sailed fin for a year. 4.0 was a little light by the time I had it rigged but was sooooo good once planing. So fun getting air even trying to minimize it. Went faster than I've sailed in a long time. The footpad glue kept shedding pieces and had to go back to winging. Great to see Chris an ... (more)

Went to the Terminal again. Solid 20 knots all morning. Few kites and wingers out. Finally made a footswitch into a toe-side tack. Made one heal-side tack and a few 360s, fun short session. Feels like I'm making some progress after a bit of a hiatus.

Impossible to remember this stuff a week out but there is a faded memory and GPS track. I do remember Sat going out early with the big wing and small board at the first sniff of wind (wanted to stink bug start on flattish water). Probably about 15 min, or more, before there was enough power to get on foil on the small board. Instantly made up a lot of downwind lost ground. Did some ferrying upwind for the other half but she was pretty much staying upwind at this point. Went back to 4m wing/HA925 mid-af ... (more)

A beautiful 3 day weekend at the lake. A bit smokey, but wind came up nicely. Was going to board caddy for Judy but she waved me off and is pretty much getting back to start point, so went out winging with her!
Took an excursion to the bottom of the lake with Bougie (Jack), nice waves and fun. Jack's popping some nice airs now!
