After watching the wind all day I finally got out for a sunset session. Went to the Terminal thinking it would be a nice flat water practice session easy on the knee. I could see white caps and that the wind was concentrated near the end of the terminal and out in the straight. Rigged the 3.5 but when I hit the water I thought I had maybe been a bit too optimistic. Slogged out to the wind line and then was fully lit. Jerin showed up, joined me up wind and then coaxed me out into the straight past the end of ... (more)

Hard session!
Noon, the old pine screaming 25kts, gusty in the bay and whitecaps on the outside. The local windsurf fleet was out in full force. I put in with the 4.0, then quickly reduced to 3m for a quieter ride. Loose seaweed everywhere, had to sail North of Hudson Islands to find clear swell. Strong ebb flow past Clark made it hard to keep upwind. Lunch break through slack water. By mid-afternoon, the flood tide cleared some of the seaweed and the swell organized nicely. Back on the 4.0 for ... (more)

First time at pipers on a 4.5. Op'd in the gust at times. Came in when the wind dropped a bit and had a bit of a swim inside of Clark Rock. Had enough so didn't re-rig bigger. Eastside carving up the swells both outbound and inbound...nice!

With KC7-R getting up with some solid foiling runs and BigD with his usual foil skills on his small board. Great 4 days up with old friends and new. 2.5 hours home, door to door. 415kms travelled in 4 days. Great weather and campsite and lake fairly empty. Not usually the first person at the beach. DM did show up shortly thereafter. Picked the right sail and board combo which is the real Pipers test. Waves died by Clark Rock quite quickly, plus tons of weed there. Swell great outside and no weed so I stayed out. Big dead zone on the way in. Blew all day. Best day at Pipers in a long time!

First time out in the swell with the new 115L. Found having to waterstart between wave sets quite different. I was confused at certain points where I would lift my sail to waterstart, but hardly had a puff to pull me up.. At first I couldn't tell if the wind was just shutting off and on, or if the waves themselves were just "blocking" the wind from reaching my sail while I was in the water, trying to get my sail as high as I could to waterstart. On another note I totally get why some guys don't us ... (more)

Omg Twofer! Windier today and bigger waves. Pulled out my big wave surfboard and got into some sweet waves that wouldn't look out of place in Hawaii or the Oregon Coast.
Powered 10m on my short(er) 20m lines really made the kite turn faster, more like an 8m. Got some great lip smacks and rides in, really wanted to wait out the flood tide and the waves that go with but had to get back home for a snooze, off to Australia tonight!
Glad to see Chris out, Sean was getting some good runs too. Breakthrough day ... (more)

Today the wind came in nicely around 8:00am when I have always said it won't blow that early here.'? Anyway I missed all that good wind but still managed an ok morning. Wind was holey but lots of well powered patches rolling through. Plenty of slog and ride as the only way to maintain my position in the waves was to slog upwind every time the wind lulled. Which was fairly often. Overall super fun morning with Axel porker and a few others joining in not to mention a few nice waves to play on.

Stubbornly took a 4 m and HA925 out hoping the wind would fill in. Would have been much better off with a bigger wing and/or foil. Floated around for almost an hour before even bothering to start my watch. Got going up the lake a bit and kept going as far as I could go. Then my progression to windward kept getting worse, wind lightening up, gybes happening on glassier and glassier water, until I came off foil. Promising forecast on both models, whitecaps on the webcam and 22kts at Entrance Island. Pipers it is!
Arrived to a silver sea, morning crew David M and Uddereef sailing the horizon. I joined MtnarG and H-Rocker on a fine two-session day. Spotty in the bay but good swell inside of Hudson Rocks in consistent 20 kts. Nicely powered on the 4m and 1250cm for the first half. Wind dropped late afternoon to a milder 14kts. Fantastic day at Pipers with MtnarG and Idefix. Steady winds with a few of the usual holes and some tidal current issues. Some difficulty in getting foiling downwind with current swell in the same direction as the wind. First 2hr session was difficult, with stronger winds and larger swell. Light wind made me think I should rig the big gun, but a winger coming in reported easy conditions for 5.0 so I blew up a wing. Wobbled out and back but Tweezer launching and pumping up to foil seconds later gave me incentive. I lack his gibbon-like arms and 7 ft stature and Everready Bunny energy that allows gargantuan rapid pumps, but I persisted a couple of times more than usual and did get going. Foiled up towards Clover for one foiling run and then slogged. Came in, rigged the big sail, and launched ... (more)

After foiling last night, I was having a beer with JJ on the beach when Bobson texted me saying Nitinat was great earlier that day. We decided right then to venture up there the next morning. Arrived at 11:45am to see Slogson turn into Bobson - stoked! Proceeded to be nicely powered on the 5m for a few hours. After coming down from a reasonable hoist near the end of my session I heard a funny crack below... popped back up and didnt think much of it till a few tacks later. Things started to feel a little fun ... (more)

Looked good ish at the point. MF4 led the way. Sailed up to Cook St. to check out the scene. 2 kites out. Steve joined from the point. Tried some twirly stuff. Got flung. RMdog joined from RB. Less good ish. Drifted in. Jesse and RMdog and MF4 went back out as it started to fill in again. Too clammy to continue.

Fun day in the sun! Stupid low tide made for a long walk to get the wind and waves but fun to share the stoke with two buds getting into the sport. Got them launched and into the goods in probably the most beginner friendly conditions one could find in Vancouver.
Some nice swellies starting to come through as the tide started to flood but needed just a bit more wind to counteract the strong tide.
Post sesh debrief lagers in the sunshine the icing in Le Gateaux!
Thanks Hansypants and Sean!

Really mellow evening session. Went out well powered but the wind slowly dropped. High tide so not a lot of current which was nice. Also really flat which is unusual but much appreciated. Tried to stay near the point as it was even lighter inside and that seemed to work. No swim even though there was no wind near the beach on the way in. Total miracle the kite remained in the sky. Classic summer clover session.

The wind did not disappoint, but the low tide and the busy Sunday made getting to the water a challenge with parking a premium. Finally hit the water 1030 and rewarded with some great wind. Monday will be another day at the office:)
