I had fun on the big gear too - 5.8 and freestyle board. Good and powered up too so I switched to the JP - sailing solo at CB trying to do cutbacks in knee high mush with no wind. Windy on the outside and a few good ramps. :D

:D Arrived at 11:00am to 10kts but was looking very gusty and holey!! Rigged the Starboard FE and Severne 10.0m and Marv showed up and started moving logs...' I got out and pumped a couple times and was cooking. The first 1.5 hours was best, then at 12:30 it died. Came in and chatted with Marv who blew up his kite. We both went out but it was very up and down around 6-9kts.....we both came in and a few guys(Erik, Joe, Penguin) were chatting with Marv. It started to come up again so I ran to my gear on the ... George (aka layingtracks) and I arrived at CB (Centennial Beach) at about noon. Looked very promising so I rigged a 5.0 and a 6.2 for insurance. Got out on the 6.2 for 2 short sessions. Planed a little - got in a few gybes but the wind never really arrived. I gotta get thicker booties. I couldn't feel my feet for most of the afternoon. Brrrrrrr! Met Elliott (http://thewindsurfer.com/) and a few other new windsurfing friends and I did get on the water so it was well worth the trip.

Zipped up to CB after work today. Don (Wing Nut) was there almost hypothermic. I tried to convince him to come back out, but the marginal up and down conditions and chilly with the milly air temps weren't tempting. So it was a solo mission with decent waves in up and down wind. Paul came out just after I came off the water. COLD. Not epic.

Only went out when I saw Morewind ripping on the webcam. Classic IV - the wind was onshore and gusty, huge swells and lots 'o logs. Still it was lots of fun. Swells were super smooth at first then it got a little choppy. Great for backside riding and hits. Cold on the hands, but not too bad.

BWD doing some smooth wave riding. GrantM ripping on an 8M in some tough conditions. GrantW out also throwing his patented laydowns. ULR joined later as BWD and I packed it in.

back at work with hood marks on both sides of my face  got to lie low until they fade.

:D :D :D TOO MUCH FUN!!! I arrived at 11:15am, and it looked perfect 12kts. I rigged up and was on the water by 11:30am when it had dropped a bit maybe down to 8 or 9kts. Jumped on and 2 pumps and away I went. Broad reach across to Sidney and then back upwind toward N. end of James Island. Then back downwind to launching spot. A couple more OP'd runs rippin' with hair on fire, then tried for one more run over to the Anacortes ferry slip but it had picked up to probably 20kts(ish) so I quickly ripped back ... (more)

:D Happy New Year! Had planned a trip south to the Dip & Sip, but it was looking tooooo good in the back yard. The far side was stable and very powered up, but the wind shadow at the beach tricked me into one very wild ride with the 7.5/150... oops. :D With good gusts, easily sailable with 5.0 from the beach, but better with a depowered 6.0 for the holes between the squalls. A nice treat after a windless trip to Maui (although my wave surfing is a lot better now...).... :D :D :D :D :D

Hateful way to start the year. DWD called at 9 am and woke us up. Thankfully Nicole didn't feel like hiking in the rain and wind and gave me the go ahead. Rigged the 4.7 Severne and hung on all day. Could have been on the 3.7 or 4.2 for the second session. Highlight was launching one of my biggest fwds and also the endless rides.

Props to everyone for the sailing level but Windoc's large backloop which he stuck very sweetly was a treat to watch!! I can't wait to get over again for the next blow.

Rigged 3.5, borrowed Paul's board, put the campfire out with it. Got past the break finally, one jump to pearl. On the train to Sidney along with the logs. Humbling conditions. Hiked back up the beach, kissed Grant's right bootie - He is God.

Happy new year :!: Thank you Columbia Beach :D BWD and I headed up wondering if we'd be nuked off the water with the 55knot warning. but, no blowout to be had. Just lots of great swell riding by the usual gang of rippers. Gusty at times kept everyone alert. Too many big and bold moves to recount by windDoc, Dunkinguy, BWD, MikeC, etc. Highly motivating and kept my stoke going dispite the cold. Personal highlight for me was 1st sail away spin loop. Well worth the drive.

:D The wind was side-offshore today which made for gusty/holey conditions on the inside at first, but filled in by noon. A good turnout produced lots of action thru the day, one of the highlights being Dunkinguy doing a huge end-over-end forward on the way out followed a few minutes later by another forward coming in that turned into a wave ride. Today had the most action I think I've seen at CB. Too bad it wasn't a bit warmer. 8)

Hands numb, left foot numb from large hole in bootie. But sooooo gooood!

Some great sailing by the usual CB guys. Morewind hucking early on, Bean throwing his best loop so far (perfect rotation), Mike C ripping the late afternoon big swell, BWD getting multiple turns on each wave, Moe drinking copious seawater and feeding the fishies, Don ripping and tripping on his Acid, Dunkinguy throwing one hand Backies, and me stoked with a high, clean Backie and some fun turns.

Wind up and down, finally got going during a lull with big board and sail, had a few nice runs, made some planing gybes :) then it came back up and I was too OP to get going, straight upwind of launch, so body dragged back in. Then spent far too much time in shorebreak trying to sail small board. Wind straight on shore, I'd get going in gust, then a lull would leave me sinking still in shorebreak. Too cold by the time it really blew (35-40) when I would have had lots of power on 4.5 Great times though ... (more)

hmmm well I think the wind range says it all (straight from latest reports - comox) .... survival kiting.... not fun... it was alright at first, definately overpowered but nevertheless semi fun, until it kicked up a notch pretty quickly, and then just getting back to the beach became a challenge...

anyway I won't complain about a windy start to the year! Happy new year everyone!

So '05 had some more action for me after all! It didn't start off well. I was screaming: "TURN DOWN THE SUCK!" with tears welling up in my eyes while slogging around on a 5.8 by myself at dawn at CB after a night of 40+ knots in the strait. It turned out to be a fun powered-up 5.8 session with a few good airs on the outside, some depowered micro-smacks on the inside and another nearly-sailed-away-from back loop. Smiles all around.

Nice morning session, nice and steady, rain stopped shortly after getting out there, but the temperature felt like -30, not sure why the water felt so cold today - hands were frozen forced to give up early.

nice 5m session  , suprisingly smooth in conditions that would have otherwise been brutally gusty.
