95% schlogging but in a NEW spot. I'll post more details in the forum later. Looked windier than it was and dropped off even more once I went in and upsized fin and bagged out sail. Worked on slow tacks, helis and almost got an upwind 360. I'm a long way from flaka practice.

    Sailworks Retro 8.0
Perfect 8.0 weather. Sunny and flat. New boom and new harness so the first few runs were spent fiddling with harness line placement and length. Finally got my groove on and played around out past clover point where the wind was steady and the water flat. The new 2005 Retro is a huge improvement from the 2001 model.

Decided to cruise in a bit closer to shore and SNAP. My 480 North Xcellerator finally packed it in just above the boom. My first concern was my new 8.0. Looked OK so I swam around and untied t ... (more)

Marv showed up and we chatted for 45mins....then it started blowing SE 10kts. I went out and planed right away, nice and flat but all of a sudden it was blowing SE 15-18....NICE!!! Started getting lumpy on the outside with the Ebb tide so I came in to warm my hands up. Marv had gone for a coffee run so I came back in to hot coffee and an Egg Muffin...NICE!! 'Volatile' in the forecast meant gusty winds. Chose the 12 to minimize liability but a ~25 knot burst convinced me to come in. Kite wouldn't self land on the beach so I released the bar & walked up the fifth line. Happy with the system. I think Rob C. had the best kite session today.( 11m) Good timing. Some guy in a speedo was out for hours with a 10 M sail on a big saucer.

Weird flukey day. Nice 15 minute session, then the wind died. I stood around and went out with the next wind. That lasted all of 10 minutes of nicely powered-Then Wham! Next thing I'm being teabagged and dragged at terrifying speeds. I managed to release my safety(manual system) just before I hit the shore( I had to use my teeth as I couldn't get a proper grip with my gloves). It was a good wake up call as to why you might want to use a punch out system. If it had have happened closer to shore, the ending c ... (more)

After a phone call to Litewave Dave, I have this kite figured out pretty well now.

I'm falling more in love with this kite, everytime I use it.

Tried body dragging on my back today, works like a charm.

Makes your whole body the rudder instead of just your arm.(didn't like the water rushing in my ear though)

Probobly my best session, this winter also. 8)

Got the day off work and was happy to see to forecast was looking good. Went down to IV and saw JL setting up, self launched not so good but made it to the water for a great session, tried to play in the surf where JL was but got abused, so I opted for deeper water. Went out for a second session later in the afternoon but wind was not as consistant as earlier, called it a day and was happy to meet some more kiters that I haven't met before :D

Nearly didn't bother to go out, but after watching a while a spate of dinghy capsizes suggested there was some power to the gusts. Launched off Humber Road so I had some Vancouver Island downwind! Planed for a few secs here and there, on a fast plane once, wouldn't have been worth it if I wasn't desparate. 7.5 and me pretty much sink the board. Would have been AWESOME for Formula!

    Gusty! Choppy! Woody!

First 15 minutes were the best. Landed one backie on the big board when the swell was the best. Started to pack up when the wind returned and conditions improved. Dan Baker piloted my gear for the second session. Good to see him out again!

Still fighting with the trim, and where to have it..

    This kite fly's so differently.

Had to relaunch off the water for the first time.

It popped back up so fast, I was flabber-gasted

The more I fly this kite the more I love it.

Ended the session, because wind died. Kite fell

out of the sky. Thank goodness I was close to shore.

The water was smooth like glass but it was 14 knots at kite level. It was like waterskiing. Then it picked up fast to 25 herring spawns. Came in and switched kites down after some big jumps and lots of backs, then the wind died in minutes and I swam in surrounded by herring-feasting seals and lions for 20 mins or so. I always like getting that added aerobic bonus esp when the wind goes due offshore. The seals are bloated with herring and barely notice when you skim over them.

Great day at Cent. Way overpowered of the 4.7. Could easily have gone 3.7 but 4.7 provided more interest in the way of adrenaline!! Killer starboard jumping ramps today. One of the few days I can say I'd have rather sailed in the lower mainland than on the island!!
