A real nice, steady, light day. No other kiters out. Dave and a few other windsurfers came out too. The crowds must be at Nitinat.

Kinda short, kinda flat but kinda fun. Good for spinny tricks and tacks and stuff. Was hoping for more since Sheringham was 22 at 1pm but oh well. Typical August.

Spent most of the day on the big gear and finally gave up around three when the winds became too frustrating. After 3 beers a front came through blowing aprx. 25. I grabbed the 80/5.2 and ripped for 1.5 hours with KUS and two other unknowns. Sweet session. Saw KUS nail some heli's. Nothing like being lit up with a beer buzz going on. Sweet!

It was OK but never got really souped up. Had to pump it up on a few reaches. The jibe is finally my friend. Got of the water at about 5 just in time to see it crank up for the late afternoon session. Watched KUS tear it up for another couple of hours. In the evening went up the beach to say hello to Vic, Heat ... (more)

Started on 6.9 and big board then sailed underpowered on 5.5/Trance 94 for most of the day. Was also sick as a dog fighting the flu or something. Watched the late session of Patches and Kus ripping it up on smaller stuff. Too sick to go out with them. Plus I had had a few beers by then. I did lend Kus my new 2005 Ezzy 5.5 so it would finally know what powered up sailing was.

Last day and the Gorge is completely shut down so we head for home, with a detour. Half way to Portland we’re both feeling a little choked about getting skunked on the last day so we say *u%k-it and burn it for Manzanita. It was a good call. Sunny a warm, started powered up on the 5.8 and finished OP on a 5.2. Huge airs and stoked to see my buddy make it out past the break his first time in real waves. A perfect last day in the end but a ton of driving.

Why did I buy a 5.5? Going to buy an Ezzy Infinity 6.0 I think. Sailed overpowered on 6.9 and 142L FreeRace. Then some time on the Trance 94L with the 5.5. Needed another 1/2 metre!!! Wind kind of holy for Nitinat. Good sauna and a 12 hour sleep....fighting the cold from hell.

Today was yesterday’s little brother. Doug’s again – 5.0 for a couple of hours then 4.2 for the rest of the day. I had no stoke for the first little while as my feet were sore from my ongoing footstrap issues. The swell was a little smaller but the big ones were easily head high and the airs were sweet and my back loops still only get 3/4 of the way around. My tacks, however, have gone from a 5% success rate to maybe 75% and it ends up being another blast of a day start to finish.

Well.... I did it. I rented nice local made board called SST Navigator 260 ( ~80 l ) and SST 5.5 something sail. The rig was heavy like a log, with very poor low end, the board was quite pleasant. I couldn't sail longer because they didn't have wetsuit in the size I needed, either two sizes bigger or two sizes smaller  I took the small one and I couldn't breath, but big one would be too cold. Lots of current on the outside ( aprox 5 knots! but against the wind ) wind shadow on the inside. Very much ... (more)

This was the big day. It was full-on 4.2 at Doug’s when we got there at 11:00, 3.5 (which I don’t own) in the mid-afternoon and was still 4.2-4.7 at sunset. The swell was the biggest I’ve ever seen at Doug’s and I had an overpowered kick-ass blast in gusts to 40 for hours and hours. Probably the biggest airs of my life and the day was capped off with a show from one of the best sailors I’ve ever seen in person – giant push loops, stalled forwards, awesome.

Had to go to Sooke today so I brought the gear. It was rippin everywhere except Gordon's. Hung out at PAsta's palace until 5pm then hit the water. Wind was gusty but decent on the outside. Some really nice ramps but I was never powered enough when I saw them. Some fun waves down near Muir. Pretty mellow overall.

fantastic late summer kiting. wind finally was west so there was no sun blinding me in the face. the bubble kept forming and eventually it killed the fun.
