LUCKY is how I feel. Got the last half of the windiest hour of the day, and it simply doesn't get smoother or liftier than that anywhere. Promissed myself I wasn't going to kite, but I couldn't miss wind like that. Used Duct tape on the foot, and watched Dave, Jan and Johny getting monster air with record breaking hang time while I set up. Had limited time, so I did backrolls, spin trans and grabs to get the most of my short time on the water. Then, like a reminder from the universe that I had to go, the wi ... (more)

Out to Gordos with Roger and his girlfriend, his first time this summer other than a short sesh with undiagnosed mono. Started great with 15-18 or so, I was powered 5.8, worries about overpowered on 7.5 unfortunately came to nothing as wind steadily died. One near-planing gybe on the big tank of a board (it keeps planing longer in less wind for sure!).

Someone on the beach described the conditions as Rippschlog...but I coined it spankhula. After a while the gusts and holes evened out and it ended up being a great day to finish off with eight of eight days on 4.7 or smaller. Back to the island tomorrow.

    What a week!! :D

I've been down on the Southern Oregon Coast this past week and sailed every day for at least 5 hrs. Waves were okay, but no real ground swell to speak of but "the rock" was still dumping. Happened to run into one rather famous professional windsurfer by the name of Josh Stone, photographer in tow, doing a west coast story for windsurfing mag. He throws the sickest, fastest, highest pushloops imaginable!!

Any local guys that want to joing me next trip??

    It is worth the drive!!

Went out on my 5.5 around noon. Had trouble staying on a plane came in for a while. Eventually around 3:00 or 4:00 the wind came up a little more consistently so I tried again on the 5.5 after 30 min or so began to slogg again. Came in grabbed Bobsons 6.5 and sailed nicely powered on that for another 45 min or so then slogged in on last run. Enjoyed the 6.5 very much while it lasted!

First time that I have ever been totally wound up on a 3.3 m sail and 69l board. Survival at it's worst. I should have kited at the marina, however, the poleskippers that I was with had a blast. It was interesting to sail in that much wind. I'm just guessing the wind speed. How much wind does it take to get out of control on a 3.3m sail?

My foot is Damn sore! Raw from too many wipeouts. Can't believe the good fortune of having three quality kiting days in a row, and evenings free to do other things. Completely the reverse from normal Cook Summers. Got out for a quick session with Sandra, missed (once again) the stronger winds that preceded our session, but it was steady and fun while we were out. Would have loved to stay, but off to another bbq!

Mighta had a chance either earlier or later, way it was a bit of a waste (dinner date); made two attempts to sail rather than watch, claims to fame on this lame day: 100% on turns 1st round, tack, helitack (been a while), gybe, back in, two mast uphauls in zilch wind. Egged MF4 on sufficiently to entice him out. Planed both ways, kelp hell kept me from getting to Clover into the windline. Note to self: Next time launch from Clover or Harling.

Sail 2 Wave 0 Jump 0  Happy Canuck Day!

mostly couples kiting today - joe and ci, tam and ger, and kitesistah and me! Nicole too, showing us how it's done. Missed the really strong early winds all day (suprise surprise) but got some good steady and pretty strong stuff around the corner. Wind was all aloft - almost nada on the water. Two days in a row for the first time in a while. :)

Missed the early session but got lucky and it came in again. A very smooth, easy session. Steady wind today. Never kited a SSW at Cook before, cruising parallel to the shoreline is fun. Ci had a great session too (doesn't talk much about windsurfing anymore). Next time I'm gona follow KSKK and Mrs. KSKK to the lee side of Clover Point for some flat water.
