Watched everyone having fun all day but when I got there it was dying. Felt like enough for big gear at Clover but decide Ross would be easier to get out to wind line . Got ready and by the time I hit the water it shut off drifted out to the end of Clover hoping it would come back with no luck .

    Deceived again!

11:00 MtnarG and iRock already sailing strong in what appeared to be 20kts. I joined in with the 4m and 1250cm. Swam out some 50 meters hoping to clear the beach lull and realized I needed more wing, hard to read this onshore wind. I had a good workout trying to stay on foil for about 45 min before admitting defeat and upsized both wing and foil. Fun session in small swell working on jibes and footswaps. It dropped again mid-afternoon, NE 12 kts , so switched to the 6.2, clearly outg ... (more)

When you're new to a sport, sometimes each successive session is a BDE (Best Day Ever) and today was a big time BDE for me. It took me repeated attempts to get out due to the shore break, but I'm glad I stayed at it. MtnarG was already out and shredding his Cab5 so I followed suit and it was a great choice for me. Pretty quick lifts and I was able to play on the mild swells. Tried lots of stuff and succeeded on many. Danno arrived shortly after I did and showed us how it's done. Inaugural SP session. Nice spot to sail, looked a little tropical today. Warm weather and fully powered up on the 7.0 Flyer. Could of rigged a little smaller but ended up being a good choice. Making progress on the foiling jibes and also entertaining foiling tacks, that's a challenge. One epic speed breach put me in the water quick.

On water about 3:45 with TunaBrett. Coming off water was John Lum and RupDog Rupert, so it was just us with the whole playground to ourselves! Wind and waves were soooo much fun today, no survival sailing like last Saturday. The swell section running down toward he spiral stairs was sweet! Dusk patroller Sam was heading out as we came off the water. Way warmer today too - Great session!

First sailing log ever! Had a great hour long session at Willow with Bobson. I think he was moving twice as fast as me lol - I could barely even hear his woohooo and he ripped fast. Might be time for a higher aspect foil $. Starting to land some turns and riding toeside for a few seconds! It ramped up and I was totally overpowered on the 5m, I definitely need to add a 4m to the quiver because I had lots of stoke and energy left!

Thanks to Clayton for letting me try out his 80cm micro board and carbon foil, unfortunately couldn't get it going in the lighter wind and shore pound. So I gave his sweet foil set-up back and headed out on mine for a fun session in the swell, had a some fun transitions and some epic wipeouts. Overall a fun after work session sharing the water with Clayton.

Arrived for the late afternoon shift with URL. Turned into the best session of 2023 for me. Great waves everywhere (especially down at the Spiral staircase). Nicely powered on the 3.5 the entire 2ish hours. Sam was heading out for a twilight session on my way in. Was weird with nobody out - URL and I just hollering at each other the entire time... One for the books.

Early start. Highrocker and I arrived before 9am. Wind was directly on shore but the shore break was minimal. I made a few Gybes. Wind started to pick up at the end of the second session (25+) and I was too tired and cold to pump a smaller wing. If it was a bit warmer, it would have been the best day ever.

Short, but outstanding session at Willows with MtnarG. Stiff E onshore 15-23kt made it a chore to get out. But once out, we just did laps from marina to CP. 1-2ft swell. Sad I had to leave after an hour, but Whistler snow beckons. Cab5 was a good choice for me and my novice skills. Gusts occasionally overpowered it, but it had predictable manners.

First time for me to wing in a dry-suit. At least I picked a worthy day. Three wings got wet. Used the 5m for the first 40 minutes, then pumped 4.2 and scratched it with the stabilizer going out . Rigged the 3.5 and it was plenty. Three wingers out and some kites in the morning. Nice to stay dry for a change.

All the usual spots were quite terrifying for me and OSRs from MtnarG reinforced the ferocity of the conditions. So I went looking for alternate more sheltered spots. Esquimalt Harbour - no easy access. Portage Inlet! Accessed from the Portage Inlet Picnic Area was worth a try. Tide was mid-height and I knew it was a bit shallow there but it was mud in the shallows. After an easy put in from the picnic area, I was foiling within 30sec. And then down after 30sec. It was gusty, with lots of holes, but much be ... (more)

Fun day at IV. Wind was very easterly and so getting off the beach was a bit challenging. My GPS track shows well how the wind kept me close to the shore which had me in the shore break a lot. I went north towards the Cordova Channel and found some nice swell too. The wind was up and down quite a bit. I pumped my 10m but then thought better of it and pumped my 12m. I was glad I did, I would have struggled a lot on the 10m. It was great to share the day with j_dog and DaveC.

The classic IV shore dump with onshore winds made for a frustrating start with the foil, after about 15 mins of trying managed to find deep enough water to water start. Lots of swell and as the wind started to build the swell was getting larger, so switch up the foil for the surfboard for the last 15mins of the session. Nice to see Davey_K and Dave out as well.

Bobson Breakfast Burritos then over to Clover. Looked light to start. Ramped up. Windier than expected. Restarts were tricky on the smaller board. Some pucker factor down some of the waves! Held it together pretty well though. BWD and ULR out with me, and joined by Docker, Marty, Junky, Scobie. Watch died half way through. Can't we invent a wind/wave powered watch?

Epic Clover session. Some chaos with the up and down wind. First two hours were manageable on the 3.5, saw a yellow wing flying to metchosin RIP. Came in, warmed back up, went back out with Sam and it ramped up to 30-40kts and we got blown off the water. Packed up and headed to Ross Bay Pub. Epic Saturday.

Super fun session but got there a bit early. Fun and mellow 3.5 for the first half then it gradually ramped up and the swell really jacked up. 2.5 was perfect but wished I'd switched to the 800. Had some really fun and long rides. Didn't want to stop but my hands eventually stopped working.

CRAP - GPS session didn't download and now it's gone. CRAP!! apparently the following never happened. UGH!! Saturday wake up to wind!! Ate my Tweezer-cakes and packed the man-van and headed for flatter water (I thought). Had coffee with my daughter in Sidney and saw some good wind 15-20kts and fairly flat water compared to RB. After coffee went to find a good place to launch, it was pouring and gusting 25kts. Yuck! So pulled into the boat launch beside The Anacortes ferry terminal. No one around so didn't ... (more)

Conditions on arrival looked great but ended up being an hour gust session. Wind up and down with the squalls, fun for 0.5. Rigged the 5.4 but 6.3 or foiling might of been the better choice.
