Arrived at IV to see Bobson foiling. I made the right call and went with the 6m. My hands were cold before I even got in the water. Except for the cold, the conditions were excellent. I did a few reaches and the wind got very light. Pumping the wing didn't warm my hands, so I packed it in. I'm such a wuss.

Arrived to 15-18kts but some holes. If I wasn't such a pussy I would have rigged the 6.0m butt decided I would rather pump between lulls than be over powered. Probably wrong choice today. I knew the wind was going to get lighter and knew the big board need more power but apparently didn't listen to those thoughts and went with the 5.2m Flyer. All in all it was a pretty good session but was super gusty and holey. At one point I was ripping along and instantly there was nothing and I couldn't get out of ... (more)

Just a short session today due to domestic requirements. Had nothing to do with -1degC air temp. Mostly chop with some whitecaps in the bay. Swell grew to 1m and bigger further out. I didn't go further out. Cab5 was just right for me, since I can't pump worth a shite. A better foiler like MtnarG, would have made the winds sing on his 4m. Great session regardless of its brevity. Fabulous way to end the windsport end of the vacation.. Wind came back and I sailed juiced on a 5.5 for a while came in for a short break, found the wind had really come up but wing was still manageable but surplus to needs. The 4.0 I replaced it with was perfect to way under in lulls. Pumping really was working to get going and to stay on foil. Big difference was a slingshot phantasm high(er) aspect foil, a G900, which started.flying very docile-ly and felt so slick and smooth, the chop was.like warm butt ... (more)

Another late afternoon session in Mill Bay. Put in at Mill Bay Rd near Rock Point. With this consistent onshore, I sailed just meters off the beach on a 2' swell. This time, I managed to stay dry and the full sun made it a little easier to endure the cold.

Best session ever. super long flagged out rides. I managed to time my Willows session for the roughest conditions of the day. Meh. Lance and MtnarG were already out there and struggling somewhat and MtnarG came back in to switch to his 4m. I was too lazy to switch out from my inflated Cab5. Wind was foilable and I got a few runs and I didn't feel too overpowered. The tight swells were a big challenge for me and one that was likely beyond my novice level. Scared the crap out of me. I called it a day after a few runs and packed up. As I was about to leave I ... Last day here, although we only have to get to la Paz tomorrow and there is supposed to be more wind so might get a late morning early afternoon session in. Took the session saver 150 starboard with a 2000 something front wind and a 7.0 Severne out again. I managed to pump to foil a few times and pump through lulls to the next ouff on a few. Late afternoon session in Mill Bay. I sailed the north end of the bay until my hands went numb. The swell by Whiskey Point was surprisingly big enough to ride. I crossed paths with a small pod of porpoises, grateful to see them around.

Felt adventurous. Beautiful scenery with snow falling in Mill Bay, and later Cowichan and Saltspring. Wore old rain/windbreaker and that really worked well to keep core temperature up. I used to have a rule, no sessions when the temp is below 5 deg C. Now I remember why I had that rule. Cold hands and snow at the end of the session. I'm considering tomorrow as an option. I guess rules were made to be broken. ;-)

Fantastic foiling day for a novice to try the swells at RB. Great sunshine, decent winds, good company with Danno and MtnarG. Consistently overpowered with the Cab6, but it's consistency made it easier to control. Had a much harder time when I switched to the Cab5, but swell period and amplitude seemed to have gotten tougher. A bit more confidence in heading into the swells and riding the roller coaster up and down. A little tougher for me to figure out riding with the swells. It's a learning thing. One of ... (more)

    Worth a second look!

11:30 A fresh OSR from Ang and MtnarG prompted me to return to RB after giving up on the wait earlier. Game on! Whitecaps at the point and building seas. Sailed overpowered for most of the session on a 6.2m but could not risk going back in for fear of another lull.

Arrived at 10am just as the morning wind shut down. Hung around for an hour and was just about to leave when Anj showed up and brought a gentle breeze with him. I went out on the 8m, not expecting much'

It ramped up, so I came in for a smaller wing and to warm my hands. Great session (one of the best lately). Sunny, not too cold, not too gusty.

Snuck in an early session. Picked the 5m, but shoulda gone with the 3.5. Missed Ryan on the water ahead of me. Mark A joined too. Long gentle swells downwind, OP'd upwind, repeat until first work meeting!

After getting my ass kicked at RB, I scurried back to Willows with my tail between my legs. Still not much wind, but I thought I'd try some learning stuff Danno told me to try. But, by the time I got on the water, the winds had built to 10-15kts. Sweet! I did many laps from MTI to the Teahouse and left fully satisfied.

38min on foil of 59min for 64%. Good enough for my limited skills.

Willows let us down despite waiting for an hour to for the bay to fill. I'm pretty sure I could hear Bobson cursing as he pumped back into CP. I followed MtnarG and Danno into RB and noted just how terrifying the swells were for a novice like me. But, I tried it with my Cab5 and it was easy to get lift. Harder to keep it flight as I wasn't used to swell that big. After a few laps not too far offshore, I gave in to my swell anxiety and called it a day. Not quite ready for that level of carnage. I'll get ther ... (more)

    flatish to swell

Epic session on the 3.5m wing and 1350cm2 foil! Launched at 115 and the in-coming tide kept the water pretty flat, considering the wind power. Really gusty near shore and a wind shadow but fully powered and over-powered at times on the outside. Felt in control, despite the gusts, because of the relatively flat water.

Bigger waves would have made it crazy. Good times.

    The Ross Bay rhythm!

Noon. I tried Willows first with MtnarG and Ang but why fight it? It was a sure thing at Ross Bay again today. By one o'clock we were served another wind and waves buffet. The 4m was the right choice for me. I'm just getting into this RB groove, reaching past the point, jibing in reasonable swell, surf back down on select lines, repeat the process.

    Bliss!

Better wind today. Started light and after failing to foil with a 5.5 wing so switched it up for a barge windsurfer 150 liter with something like a 2300 front foil. Paired with a 6.0 and found it was pretty much unmanageable when there was enough wind to waterstart. Came in and switched to a 120 L Starboard and a 5.5 wing and a Dakine foil. Cycled between out of control wild veers to sort of mellow foiling. The difference seemingly about 2 cm of foot placement. Came in to switch down to 5.0 when the wind c ... (more)

Super fun session finally getting used to the rental gear had some fairly long rides down towards the harbour. Some big rollers further out , outside the reef. Not as much stoke as the local rbfc.
