Got there at 2:30 pm and rigged 8.5. At 3:00 pm went out and it died. Slogged for a bit and then I got going on the 8.5 finally, from 3:30 – 4:30 was nice and powered. I sailed in a seat harness for the first time with the 8.5 rig instead of a waist harness. Not bad. Around 4:15 it dropped right off but then immediately started to get windier…..whitecaps came up everywhere….so I came in for a rest and rigged the 6.9. Then Kus from Victoria shows up? And it starts nukin. He rigs a 5.4 around 5:00 and is flying. I took the 6.9, which was now rigged, and the new JP Super X (my Trance was in the garage at home), it was now cranking 25+…I zip out, the new JP has only the fin in the water, way overpowered…I am scared, major spinout. From what I could tell for that short rip the Super X has a very nice feel, super-fast….but I was scared shitless so I come back in and rig 5.5….Kus is still ripping, and everyone else is rigging down. Just as I head out on the 5.5 it drops back below 20, so I go back and get the 6.9 and FreeRace 142……cause there are big holes now….in between the gusts....then it drops more and I go out on the 8.5 again. Then it comes up again and I am overpowered on that...so I come in again. Finally it mellows at around 16-18 and I sailed the Freerace and 8.5 until around 7:30…..a bizarre day. Never leave small gear at home!
