WOW :D One of the best days I've ever had at Esquimalt. The wind was SSW which is very rare and it actually stayed that way which is even more rare. I blasted over to Clover Point on my first reach out. Blew my jibe and then couldn't get waterstarted for about 10 minutes. Finally got some wind and blasted back over towards Esquimalt. Saw BIG cruise ships just coming in.
As I was heading back I looked over my shoulder and saw a whale watching boat just downwind of me...as in JUST downwind  . Raced with him for awhile and then noticed a few more whale watching boats over towards Esquimalt harbour. I figured it must've been a slow day and they were doing some sightseeing along the shoreline. Then I noticed that they were all in a circle and I was in the middle. That's when I saw THE FIN   . I looked through my sail and saw a killer whale about 50 feet downwind of me. I slowed to have a look and then thought I'd better keep moving. The pod moved all the way across the beach front at Esquimalt. I was able to sail with the boats as they tracked it. I didn't see the fins again but saw lots of spray quite close to the beach. Pretty amazing experience.
The wind was good too. Nothing fancy, just smooth sailing :D :D :D
