Quad Fin Review - Quatro 95L Starboard 92L
YEAH - I was thinking my "wife" needs a quad too, and a thickness planer, a new sliding table for the large saw, etc. To Nanmoo's point, we mid-50's, not-so-good-looking, not-so-tall, not-so-featherweight, not-loopers may need to hold up the single fin revolution a while longer. Haven't sailed a tri since 1990 and yet to use the quads, maybe this winter I can be convinced, keep hoping, then leaving town, then having too much fun on the JP FSW single-fin.
We windsurf - life must be good!

I find it interesting more sailors here don't ride twins for our side-on waves or even bump and jump conditions. They are looser and actually more fun to turn tightly than most quads. The Quatro twin is really a great all around board and jumps onto the plane, jumps high due to its fantastic speed, and is perfect for Gordo's style bump and jump or CB. Same for the Starboard twins or Quad to twin convertibles. The quads rip upwind but give up that free and loose feel that is unique to twins. Some of the older twins were harder to sail upwind and get planing, but that doesn't seem to be an issue now. I love both types of fin set ups, but if you haven't tried a twin, you should!

Hey,
Re a quad (or tri-fin). I just want one. I don't care if I don't need one. I just want one. I am going to buy one.
I have owned many boards over the years (Starboard, JP, Fanatic, Goya)....but seem most happiest on Fanatic (the Goya One is pretty sweet too). I'm really liking the look of Fanatic's 2013 boards. The finish on the Fanatic Team Edition (TE) boards is sweet.
Interesting that Fanatic are making their FreeWaves (typically a directional freestyle wave) with a Tri fin set-up for 2013.....powerbox and 2 slotboxes.
So am saving some $ over the winter, and selling some boards and skis. Then next June I plan on buying a 87 - 94L Fanatic Quad (or do I get a Fanatic Trifin 93L?) and likely also a 105L Fanatic FreeWave tri fin convertible to go with my 120L Fanatic Hawk.
2013 Fanatic Freewaves:

And the new Fanatic trifin looks sweet too:

Thoughts on the Fanatics? Quad or Tri-fin?
What size quad or tri-fin....I am leaning to approx. 93L (vs 85L)....as you can sail quads a bit bigger?? and I am not that comfy sailing or doing a ton of sailing below 4.2M....so a 4.5 - 5.8 board.
And am just putting this out there......for you nanmoo.
I had some ankle/fitness issues this Spring. But in 2013 I plan to be leading (or following) a pack of scared newbie wave on their first Oregon trip. So if I am too scared to sail at least I have someone to drink with.
.....mtm is in!

Likely last week of June and first week of July 2013?
