Ventanna Wind Direction ???

I was wondering when you go out in LaVentanna are you on your starboard tac (like cook street on Westerly) or port tac (like Cook Street on SE or Nitinaht Lake) ????

Or depend of wind direction ??? Is it always same wind direction? (from session log it is always north)

* Basically I want to know if there are beaches not too far that when you get on the water you are on your starboard tac facing jumping ramp / swells on your way out (like cook on westerly) ??? Or unfortunately you always you face these ramp / swell on the port tac ? *

At risk of assuming this is a serious question.
Wind always from the north in the season (winter).
Therefore wind from the left (port tack) heading out from the beach.

It was serious Never been there and from session log I only saw north so far... Was just making sure/confirming... Tks for the info on the wind.

For the beaches, only chance to be starboard tac would be the stretch on the east (about 5-6km east), I was wondering if people w/s kite there as well? (would be onshore quite a bit, but facing wave / ramp on starboard tac the more east you go, especially on the tip aproximately 12km east of la Ventanna). Do people do downwinder there sometimes? Or drive there and kite there / ws there ?

There was never really much for jumping ramps from what I saw Ian. Just look for a flat spot and send it. (I know it is a little different for you as you need to plan your jump 100+m ahead with those slow foils ) There are reef breaks close to shore that will give you a port ramp, but people are usually riding these and not jumping them. If you want to jump then go over to the Island and ride the flat water with nice steady wind and warm water

I guess Ill do Costa Rica before LaVentanna then, only bad thing in Costa Rica is the tendonitis wont take long before coming back with the daily 30kts-35kts++

that spot you circled is a pretty desolate stretch of beach, i recall doing a bike ride out there a long time ago. there was a lighthouse and a cool rusty shipwreck to check out. wind is dead onshore.

you will like LV, Ian and it's cheap and easy to get to, (bit late for this year tho).....unlike flying to Costa Rica..... daily 30-35 knots?? Where is that I hear barely 15-20 mostly there on the coast and bring your surfboard (in English that means....it gets a bit too breezy to read the paper at the water some days) ....unless you're talking Arenal THAT'S a tendonitis spot

Kus, I am not planning a trip this year but hoping for one next year (I saw a good deal on a Van and trailer in LaVentanna) this is why I was asking now.

For Costa Rica; ask Todd and Lysane next time you see them to tell you more about it. (what time the wind start, what time the wind die, when it does, and about the gust, they are not that bad and very predictible)

Apply wind correction made by either blue dream or Bahia Salinas in right top corner, option tab. They add thermal effect in it when wind stronger than 14kts.

@ JL: The day that jumping on the starboard tac with an over power kite (the more over power the better) doesnt bring a smile on my face anymore is the day that I ll learn jumping on the port tac, or trying to learn basic stuff like turning properly and riding toeside.

For Bahia Salinas, Costa Rica....
In my 17 days there last year
2 days @ 20knots
6 days 25-32knots
6 days 30-40 knots
3 days 45+knots

I was mostly on a 6.5m and 9.0m kite. If you go do not bring anything bigger than a 10m. and don't forget a 5m.

The wind is gusty, not punchy, but up and down. Not as bad as what I have experienced at Hood River's event site.

You'll huck those big airs in LaVentana coming into the beach on starboard. the waves are coming from the north. The wind swell sets up better for jumping that direction if your lower down in the bay ( south end ). Bonus is if you fuck up and float in, you blow right into a sandy beach. Just kite down there an avoid the upwind campers.
