wind alerts

Post by PacificWindsurf »

Hi guys. I develop and maintain the PacificWindsurf.com web site. I actually was going to post a notice about these wind alerts here but you beat me to it. I've added a few wind alerts for the Vancouver / Victoria area which are up and running already. Just subscribe to the weather station of your choice, and select a minimum wind speed. Then if the wind speed hits that strength you'll receive either an e-mail or mobile test message. I'm sorry about having to specify the wind speed in miles per hour; I tried to convert it to kph but that data was specified in decimals and the script didn't seem to like the format, but I can work on that. I'd love to receive feedback so please e-mail me with any comments, questions or suggestions.

Thanks! :D

- Joe

Hi Joe, have you considered some mid-Island locations for Vancouver Island such as the "Sister's" or "Ballenas" weather stations operated by Environment Canada? There's a group of us who could benefit :)

Cheers, Matthew :D

Thanks for the feedback. I'll see if I can add those other Vancouver Island locations. I'm limited by the raw data that I get from the NOAA / Metar sites.

This service is totally free. I just run PacificWindsurf as a hobby web site, kind of like this BigWaveDave site. I live in Seattle but I try to make the site serve the entire West Coast and Hawaii.

Thanks!

wind alert stations

Hey, are these some of the locations that you asked about? I have a list of weather codes but I'm not sure if they are the locations you requested. If these are the locations I can definitely add them to the wind alert script.

Yupper, Ballenas and Sisters. Mid-Island, arguably the best coastal kitesuring area in BC, barring summertime. Drop by for a visit sometime if in the area.
