i am gearing up for the season but have a little rip in my sail along the green sail material and the clear material. is there a tape that will stick to both. the guy at north here wants up to 115.00 to repair a one inch tear on an 8 year old sail...........
any pointers would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Kev,
Is the green sail material mylar (shiny one side , cloth the other)? If it is then you should be able to fix it with some Tedlar (sp?) tape. It`s a clear mylar tape that you stick on and then heat with a hair dryer. Make sure you stick it to the shiny side of the green material. You should be able to get it from your friendly North guy . We buy it here from Bosuns and it pretty cheap.

hi ross,
the clear material has come away from where it meets the mast sleeve about an inch worth...so would the tape stick to both materials?
thanks for helping me to keep this sail alive! i love it! it has sooooooo many repairs i can't even believe it!
take care, happy sailing.

patch
Sounds like it might require a good ol' patch. Take two pieces of dacron, one for each side, and hand stitch them into place with some heavy polyester (if possible) thread. If you can't get the needle through then heat up a needle with a blow torch and pierce-melt the holes you need. Sounds crude but it works well.
thanks
hey dude,
thanks for the reply.
that's also helpful. i sort of had that idea, but it's good to get the names of the materials needed and best suited for the job. i'm a good sewer and will give er a go.
