Deep Bay Webcam

Hi
This is Ken McClean.
The Deep Bay camera that I host has been inactive for almost 18 months. Many locals, including the coast guard and snowbirds, have been on my case. I connected it to a new router Nov. 2023 and it has not worked since. Is there anything that I can do to rectify this?

Hi Ken:

It's a bit tricky with a new router since the camera is on a different local IP address. The camera address needs to be changed so it can talk to the new router. I need to visit, or if you know a person with some network knowledge then I can talk them through it. They would need a laptop and a spare switch/router set to 192.168.0.1.

FYI it should be a 10 minute job and no ladder is needed. Everything is done inside the house. The webcam just needs to be changed from static IP to DHCP. I can't remember what static LAN IP the webcam was set to, but probably 192.168.0.XX or 192.168.1.XX and port 8000.

Steps:
- from inside the house, connect the webcam Ethernet cable going into Ken's router to your switch/router that is connected to your laptop
- install this program on your laptop to find the camera: https://stardot.makekb.com/file/82/?f=1
- hopefully the camera is found, then connect using your browser http://192.168.0.XX:8000
- enter username/password (will send to Markus)
- go to Network tab and change the IP assignment from Manual to DHCP and hit Apply
- then reconnect the webcam to Ken's router and it should start working: https://bigwavedave.ca/deep-bay.html
- if you can't find the camera using the Stardot Tools then you may have to change your router (not Ken's) to 192.168.0.1 (or .1.1) to be on the same LAN IP as the camera to connect initially

If this was too easy, then maybe we can look into resurrecting the CB webcam next which will require ladders and tools ?

As an update, Duckbill kindly drove an hour to Deep Bay, picked yours truly up 1/2way and were greeted by our lovely upbeat and happy webcam hosts Ken and Olga. Ken, Bill and I used laptops, various checklists and programs, installed the switch donated by Bill and new cables, checked roof and cam connections but after over an hour were sadly unable to overcome the gremlins.

The cam may be a bit closer to getting online but we failed to make it happen today not for lack of enthusiastic effort. I left a bottle of champagne I brought in Olga’s fridge as we had no reason to crack it
