Waterproof MP3 players
Every now and then I hear about a waterproof mp3 player and was wondering if anybody out there has seen it, what brand, cost etc etc. I think there is a waterproof case for the ipod, but this unit is actually waterproof initself, no case needed. Then comes the question, would tunes on the water be a safe thing, cant hear people or other things coming as you are bopping to the toons. My personal take is that you should be aware of where you are, and if you are about to boost, have a good look around to ensure you are clear, but I think it would be good to get some other perspectives on this subject as well.

2-cents worth from Nanaimo:
I think doing any activity involving traffic (including cycling) becomes a lot more dangerous when you compromise one of the senses - especially the one that would receive a "watch out!" from others.
As soon as you have another person on the water with you, I think you pose a danger if you are jiving to your favourite tune. If you are alone, and the only person that can be hurt is you - then go for it.
Cheers

Hey Dale, mike in penticton here, hope things are well. After alot of looking around I just picked up a nano and am going to order a waterproof case and headphones for it pretty quick. All the sports I do become more enjoyable (for me) when I have music playing. Gets you in the mood or amped up or whatever. Of course there are always those days when I just leave music out of it and enjoy the peace and different sounds that naturally accompany said sport. As far as dangers, yeah, I suppose but as long as you keep your head up and kite with the alertness you already have you should be fine. Only real concern I have is not being able to hear someone trying to warn me when they are skipping downwind at me out of control, but maybe that's a good thing

Sweet thanks for the input, hey Mike how goes it, hope Baja was kind to ya! You planning any trips out my way. Heh the company is threatening me again into sending me to Kelona, I think I cried enough about missing most of the Nitinaht season last year that they make take pity on me and leave me on the island. Thanks Cris and the other fella for the links!!
As for the comment about keeping the senses, that was basically what I was thinking, bout at the same time, the thought of grooving to tunes and BOOOSTin big sound damn sweet as well. Mike has it nailed I think, sail safe and no worries.
