Here's a guide on wave sailing the Oregon Coast. It's got some great advice on getting out through the waves, riding waves, and avoiding gear breakage when you get caught on the inside.

This article was a huge help in trying to find the best riding spots as i rode on the nor-Cal /Oregon coast for the last month. Alternatively, here is another location for the article with a few Oregon coast pics included to make your mouth water! It really does rip there! Another tool I found to be of great use was Google Earth. It helped us find sandy beaches we otherwise wouldn't have known existed. Using the tilt option helps you see the relief of the topography so you have an idea how the landscape will affect the wind. It will also show you roads so you can find out how to get there or if it's even possible.

Nice links: Though the arcticle is the same, the pdf version has links that work while the 'skypilot' version has nice pics...Looks like fun...Maybe for my Sept. vacation...p.s. one more thing i forgot to mention: This time of year, the water can be COLD!!! in the winter they get more southerlies and the difference can be easily 10F in a day. keep that in mind. The buoy off pistol river when i was there a couple weeks ago was 46F. Swimming with broken gear (which happens more often than you might think when it's double overhead at the least) isn't fun when you can't feel your extremeties!

Hey nanmoo, it's not the big waves, angry sharks, rip current or pelting sand that you have to worry about anyway. There are much worse things that you get exposed to on the Oregon Coast.

Unfortunately I have already seen that, one unfortunate day at IV, when a certain culprit (who shall remain nameless) and I were chatting, inadvertently moved and before I could adjust my gaze the suns reflection off the 'kusmoon' blinded me. I think it was all an evil setup. Payback will be forthcoming.

However, I did learn two things from the experience:

1. A Lunar eclipse is best viewed with sunglasses on
2. Kus wears boxers/shorts/speedo in the tanning bed

I wonder how the counseling worked out for those poor innocent children that were nearby...

Except....now a nasty memory rears its ugly head..... a bit of white skin goes a long looooong way in the rest areas just south of Portland

Oddly my Oregon dates are eerily similar to HollowBones'
