Cook st Sunday?

Post by jeamer »

Hey guys, out in Beacon Hill park getting the hang of the 8m yesterday in some stronger wind... that was fun!!! Noticed as I was leaving (~7:30 PM) that there were ambulances, fire trucks, police, and the coast guard out! Plus a serious lack of kites on the water. Wondering if everyone is ok?

PS Looking forward to the SE tomorrow! Crossing the fingers for surf!

RESCUE EFFORT ON DALLAS ROAD IS A FALSE ALARM
Jul 27, 2008

VICTORIA POLICE SAY A RESCUE EFFORT FOR A HANG GLIDER REPORTED TO BE IN DISTRESS NEAR CLOVER POINT TURNED OUT TO BE A FALSE ALARM.

From C-Fax website:

SOMEONE REPORTEDLY CALLED IN A TIP SAYING A HANG GLIDER OR PARASAILER WAS SUBMERGED AND IN DISTRESS IN THE WATERS ALONG DALLAS ROAD.

POLICE SAY AFTER AN EXTENSIVE SEARCH ALL PARITES INVOLVED WERE SATISFIED THERE WAS NOBODY IN THE WATER.

THE SEARCH EFFORT INCLUDED A POLICE BOAT, A FIREBOAT, 2 COAST GUARD VESSELS, AND A WHALE WATCHING BOAT.

OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WATER AND ON THE BEACH DID NOT REPORT SEEING ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS.

The whale scaring boats were really screwing up the waves again yesterday, not to mention causing major stink  :x

It's nice to know that they volunteer for search efforts to give back to the community.... nothing personal, boat crews, just kinda my pet peeve

The whole exercise was kinda interesting in the sense that nobody really knew if anyone was missing. The search I think was downgraded after it could be confirmed there were no handgliders during these higher winds AND the front row of cars was searched to confirm not kiters were missing. Perhaps something to think about it to ensure either kite bags or some windsurfer indicators are visible in your vehicle so it can be identified by police that indeed a vehicle belonging to a windsurfer/kiter is left unclaimed in the parking area so the search doesn't get called off. If you ride your bike/motorbike down there, be sure you tell a buddy.

Perhaps a BWD windshield sticked similar to the Nat one is a good idea?? Donate to the site to get one :?:
