Well I have decided to take a step up from sleeping in the car and purchase a tent. Looking at car-camping only, so weight is no issue. Ideally 4 person to fit Me, the Ms, the dog and other stuff. Summer months only, at places like Nitinat.
MEC seems like a good bet, but Canadian Tire stuff is half that price. Is it crap?

I have nice lightweight hiking tent.. it's great but for the nitinat i use a big Costco family dome! look for a tarp floor and big doggy vestibule. save your money for real important stuff.. like fins, board bags etc..

Outbound Lakeside Long 6 person, 10'x10' $159 @ Capital Iron. SOLD!!! This should prove to be much more comfortable than the inside of the Jetta.

That's funny. Few years ago I upgraded from sleeping in a tent to sleeping an a van. Works great for me

If they built a Van that got the mileage of the Jetta, I would have bought one too! (those right hand drive things don't count!)

& it's great to camp on the beach away from outhouses & car stereos.
Thermals are good.
