Thanks, Geoffy for your comment.Geoffy wrote:Hey - that's the ticket SB - saw your eloquent clip on news a few nights ago, well spoken. Need to open up the Mountain Biking experience there to give us something to do since winds are later in the day!
Take Care - G
Lots of work has been done with regards to trails and some are calling Port Alberni and the Valley the 'Mountain bike capital of the island'
Here's the newly released Alberni Valley Trail Maps:

Super hardcore to more flat and gentle...multiple levels of endless riding for various skill and abilities here all year round. Amazingly wild viewpoints at some mountain peaks.

PA,Harbour Quay's float plane landing&breakwater coming
Windy Port Alberni has been compared to Hood River, Gorge, and now, the Harbour Quay will soon be getting a section of the old Hood Canal bridge to enhance the harbour's float plane landing capabilities.
Never a dull moment for our city of PA's amazing Economic Development Officer.

Photo of a section of it being moved, soon to be tugged up the canal

But does that mean it will interfere with our showing off windsports to the tourists at the Jetty by no longer being able to blast back and forth right beside the restaurants?Sandy Beach wrote:Harbour Quay will soon be getting a section of the old Hood Canal bridge to enhance the harbour's float plane landing capabilities.

Re: PA,Harbour Quay's float plane landing&breakwater com
Hi MF4, The bridge piece is planned to go way below where we all windsurf and kite. It will be downwind and should not hinder, but enhance the wind enthusiasts showoff abilities in the inlet (in front of the Water's Edge Pub, where the BWD wind sensor is located).more force 4 wrote:But does that mean it will interfere with our showing off windsports to the tourists at the Jetty by no longer being able to blast back and forth right beside the restaurants?Sandy Beach wrote:Harbour Quay will soon be getting a section of the old Hood Canal bridge to enhance the harbour's float plane landing capabilities.

Re: Port Alberni Inlet Windsports
* Resurrecting an old thread......to pay our respects to a visionary leader (John Douglas, who many of you have met in person and knew) here in Port Alberni.*
The Harbour Quay waterfront flags have been at half mast for the past week, as former mayor John Douglas passed away unexpectedly on Thurs. July 11/24.
John was instrumental in the reason our family moved to Port Alberni (in 2010), as his vision and dedicated work for a revitalized waterfront, including Canal Beach, Harbour Quay and now, the Somass Mill lands to be redeveloped. John originally had posted on BWD as 'Flash' back in 2009 to garner some input and feedback from our BWD island wind community about the potential of attracting wind and watersports to Port Alberni and area.
He certainly started something, as, there have been many waterfront and windsport initiatives since then by a number of different people, groups and businesses over the years.
Here's a old video clip from 12 years ago, when he won the mayoral seat of Port Alberni, with the promise to help revitalize the waterfront.
We will miss John immensely and happy to see that many of his initiatives and projects will help transition this mill town for generations to come. https://www.cheknews.ca/john-douglas-po ... s-1213938/ R.I.P. John Thank-you for your dedicated service, kindness and friendship.
