Camping at Nitnat

Post by otisdadog »

Was thinking of heading to Nitnat this weekend depending on the weather.

Is the campsite open for overnight camping?

doubtful it's closed, it just may not be set up yet (but be free of charge then), take some TP and a chainsaw 8) or visit the new PA WILD adventurous launch

It's not yet operating but it is open and people have used it. TP, chainsaws, and fishing rods!

For this upcoming weekend, weather depending, I suggest Nitinat, since Wild West Watersports in Port Alberni is not yet open. We look forward to helping wind seekers get out on the water soon.
4/4 days of wind in the beautiful Alberni inlet :!:

Hi Sandy, how strong was the wind over there? The PA current wind doesn't update since a while on island map.

Hi Teabag,
We are working on the windsensor in PA for accurate OSRs and for future wind stats. I didn't have my wind meter, but from a guesstimate, mid-afternoon Saturday, it was thermal-like conditions 15-18 knots. It's a hotspot and I should have used sunscreen.

Yesterday was frontal, and capping...likely 12-15 knots at the peak.

The only calm I saw was first thing in the morning and after dark...similar, but different to the Nitinat wind machine.

Currently, the Harbour Quay webcam is functional and gives you a glimpse into the inlet conditions.

PA wild west launch

Thanks for your stoke. We are excited too!
We're still working on the launch, so, unfortunately, we are not in a position to open it up to the public just yet. We will keep you posted.

PORT

Post by GWIND »

Stopped by today to talk to Rob. That site is huge, there will be lots of room for fun. The beach at polly's point is a short tack up wind. White caps today!
Ask about the 7 o'clock wind. June can be really good there cause it's cold in Tofino. Note: Polly's can be 7-10 knts windier than the Quay.
8) PS Port Alberni is probably the hotest place on Vancouver Island ( OFTEN OVER 30 DEG. )

port access

Post by Sandy Beach »

Thanks Gwind for your input! Sounds like you and a few other windsurfers used to sail regularly off of Polly's Point and further upwind at China Creek.
The wind conditions are amazing and varied at different locations up the inlet all the way from the coast to downwind past the Harbour Quay.
Lots of sailing room and various conditions for everyone to share.
Currently, there is no public access to launch safely.Just a note that the Wild West Watersports site is still a work-in-progress on many different levels and it is gated/locked to public use at this time.
Super excited about opening our doors.
