Stephen,
I had a welder (the one next to Capitol Iron in Victoria) build me a 5-board wall-mounted board rack like the HBS rack Rob posted, but from aluminum for my small garage. Super light and supports up to 40 pounds at each level. Not too expensive, tidy, works great and looks a lot better than dangling ropes.

I screwed a couple 2x4 studs to the wall vertically, from floor to ceiling then attached some big metal shelf brackets. I extended the horizontal arms out with sections of pvc pipe, padded with old socks. this gives me slots for 2 surfboards and 3 ws boards. sails/masts/booms go down below. Has been solid for 8 years now.
I have drip hooks outside the garage where i hang the sails for a few days before i cram em in the garage.

new garage racks
Hey,
Got a buddy who is a welder in Chilliwack. He always laughs at all my boards in the garage.
He just showed up with a new rack set-up.....gonna bolt it into the floor tomorrow.
