Oregon Wavesailing Trips 2012

Post by nanmoo »

Ah.... every year I can't wait to start this thread. Less than 6 months to go! Time to start planning and booking off dates.

This year the Pistol River contest runs from June 14-17.

I am going to plan to head down from the 12-24 or so depending on weather.

Book it!
Don't forget to bring a towel!

MOREWIND in OR

Post by morewind »

Later start this year as my wife is off on her vacation in the 3rd week of June. Need to confirm the dates, but I should be free to go:

2 weeks -- June 25 - July 9th, possibly longer as new corporate rules give me a one-time boost of vacation for 2012 :D :D

 I keep hoping to see RD post here. :D :D :D

With a whole page of comments on the orange pictures, I can see the thought of the Oregon Coast is popular right now.

My family is pushing for a 'warm' summer holiday this year, but all I keep thinking about is the Oregon Coast (and Maui is so flat in the summer :? , no?). With a little luck I might be able to broker 2 (sailing) trips 8)
(if the 2012 BWD Oregon Coast tour is open to all - including kooks from the Lower Mainland - again  ).

C36, we haven't met yet, but there are 3 of us (KC7777, mortontoemike, and myself; Keith, Mike, and George) from the lower mainland that are going to try to get down to Florence for some intro sessions in the waves, and beyond that, we'll see how hard the beverage fund is being hit, and with regards to my friends, and vitamen I bottle...

Oregon 2012

Post by KC7777 »

Hey,

Just want to officially state that I am scared of Oregon waves. But this will give me something to get in shape for by June.

Looks like I have to teach until mid to late June so likely I would be available anytime from June 27- July 14 or Aug 4 - 16? or Aug 20 - Sep 3 for Oregon Coast or Gorge trips!

PS - FOLO - UFV was closed all week, Baker had 60cm on Mon/Tues!

Only on the biggest days is there anything really worth being scared about, except for the sharks, those are there everyday.

that much has been clear....and, on occasion, so are we all  and for good reason
But on most days, there is really a far more important issue to resolve and that is where we will eat afterward and which beer to drink and what lies to tell.
As we have beaten up, there are plenty of easy days, or parts of easier days, for a newbie to try themselves. I would just suggest you have a waterstart wired and the ability to go fast.....for when you need to  to avoid unnecessary time spent being part of the ocean and/or beach

Hey Markus,

Your "checklist" makes me feel much better....as I note that expert gybing ability is not on it:

Fast waterstart wired -check
Can sail fast - check
Affinity for beer - check, check
Lying about my abilities - check

well, if you can't go fast enough, a quick chicken gybe is sometimes a good skill  but no, it doesn't really matter much except for minimizing time spent in the water with the Roosters outside  :P or snaking someone's wave, one of BWD (just kidding) and Shaggy's (not kidding) primary skills

Days to avoid perhaps early on? Image
