batten replacement

Post by dorkfish »

Anyone know where one would source a 67 or so inch sail batten? Or something non-specialized that would provide the strength? It's old, wrinkly ass gear and I'm a learner, so it doesn't have to be fancy.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

best to salvage from another throw away sail (there are lots of those) or try marine/plastics store, you likely won't be able to match exactly. The challenge is usually the batten end style, if it's old and there is just a strap even a plastic rod will do. I have even used a footlong plastic coathanger round chunk of plastic and electrical taped to existing broken rod/batten to make things work for a while....make sure the broken end is on the leech side. Not great but gets more life.
Wish less, sail more!!
