anybody checked out one of these units? they are marketed at divers but they seem to have some neat features for $300.

I picked up this one, super light, flashes, 10 weather channels, easy use. Got it in my truck for out west, could carry it easily if I wanted. Store across from the Can Tire on Douglas, $140 or 160 I think it was

I like that Nautilus. VHF specifically for SHF. Small, total waterproof (waterproof vhf aren't, especially not for high speed crashes), smooth case, crush proof, build-in gps. Wonder what they are in Can $ now?

i think they are $300, or thereabouts, according to the website they are based just over in Richmond BC. also looks like London drugs has them at $325.

They MSRP for $325 in Canada. They are only waterproof when the cap is closed, so if you have to open and use it... not so much waterproof. Notice the pictures all have people holding them well away from the water.

Is the LifeLine waterproof with the upper cap open?

Yes. With the upper cap open the LifeLine is IP67 rated (15 cm to 1 meter of water immersion for 30 minutes). You can safely use it on the surface in all sea conditions. With the upper cap closed and sealed it is rated to 425 feet.

it sure does make the whole unit look like a sippy cup!

i had a look at one last weekend at the London Drugs at tillicum, it had just come in and they didn't know much about it. The lady there thought it needed a subscription service like a SPOT which is false. It was a little heftier that i might have guessed but it seemed pretty solid. for me, i already have a radio and a gps unit so aside from the rescue call feature there is no new capability except that it is a nice tidy package and looks pretty bomber.
