Winter wetsuit

Post by Windjunky »

I am sure i read an old thread about this but cant find it. . I am looking for a new winter wetsuit everyone is sold out of 6mm suits. Is this too warm for winter around here? i probably wont be going out below freezing but want to stay warm whether surfing or windsurfing . I have an old gul 5 4 3 that seemed good all winter but seems much thicker than my newer ripcurl dawn patrol 5 3 which is great for summer but gets chilly in winter. Looking at flash bomb 5 4 and oneill physco 5.5 or should i wait for 6mm suits to come in.

I find my thin hooded vest helps a lot. If available, something like it could carry you until what you want arrives.

Not sure they make 6m anymore, maybe for diving. A new good 5/4/3 is plenty. I find the hard part is staying warm and dry while rigging.

Thanks guys used my 5/3 with vested hood last spring(feb march ) and still got cold after a bit. Decided on a 5/4 billabong with attached hood and lining feels much warmer than old 5/4/3 so should be good for most of winter.

Winter wetsuit.

Post by voodmon »

I would suggest a 6/4, I have a 2017 neilpryde 5/4 combat with their armour skin which repels water, which is supposed to be as warm as a 6/4 but its not as warm as my same company 6/4 smooth skin Zealot , no harm in getting warmer and enjoying your sessions, rather than freezing your ass off. Go with the 6/4 and if you are too warm. fall in, it's a no brainer!

If anyone hears of a sale for this year please post on here. Looking for a 6/4 or so as well. Plan to go out all year, even sub 0C.
Will try the windbreaker/kayak jacket for those really cold days too.

I like the front shoulder to shoulder zip BUT excel uses better neoprene and we have local reps. https://www.hotlineonline.com/c-53-mens-wetsuits.aspx

wetsuit

Post by Windjunky »

Coastline on broad st said they were getting more 6/5 wetsuits in beginning of october. They carry ripcurl, o'neill., xcel and billabong.I was looking at xcell first in coombs but saw a few utube videos of seams coming apart but they are probably all the same. I think all 6mm will be chest zip with a hood though.

Nice, thanks. I got a sew-on patch for one tear on my cheap 5/4 which held up today. Also got a 1mm vest to put over in the Winter and will try the wind-breaker idea, plus possibly impact vest (or maybe that’s just too many layers!. Will see how that goes this year.
