Kiters on Bowen Island? Can I foil there?

Post by Noahrainey »

Fellow wind addicts,

Me and my family are considering Bowen Island as our year-round home. Do you know any kiters on Bowen? Can I talk with them?

Have you seen solid wind on Bowen? I'm hoping that it catches some of the thermal that feeds Squamish, plus wind that moves up/down the Georgia Straight.

Seems like it has potential... and I cant move without asking the local pros.

Thank you!

In my experience outflows work in the morning. Inflows not so much. Limited beach so better with a boat.
Don't forget to bring a towel!

I know an accomplished waterman/kitefoiler who moved to Bowen. Occasionally he will foil there, but it is purely a novelty spot for him and he described it as sketchy which I would translate as being terrifying for most people. Personally I think it would be hell living on Bowen and being into windsports, especially knowing how much better and safer the launches are on the Mainland.
