board repairs - version 2

Post by Keen »

I've got a different board injury than monkeymanmike. I had the unlucky (but probably common) accident of my board getting ripped off the roof of my car by a gust while I was strapping it down... doh.

it was in a bag but it landed up with a hairline crack about an inch long on the side rail. looking for repair guidance.

I'm thinking I should completely grind out the cracked area so I can get a good bond in there with some epoxy and faring compound or;
maybe I could just apply some epoxy on it and hope it hardens into the crack.
Other ideas? 1st option is obviously more involved.

any input appreciated.
thanks!

Kus, did I mention that I missed the episode of the Red Green Show where they show how to repair a board with duct tape? You didn't happen to tape (no pun intended) that one did you?

nope, sorry bud, but it sounds like a good one 8) if the crack is really thru the cloth but there#s no movement noticable it probablý is still tight, just dab-rub a bit of dingstick or epoxy over it and buy a bigger van to keep stuff inside :lol:

I've tucktaped many a board back together. Duct tape isn't as permanent as Tucktape, thus is not reccomended. Tucktape is much cooler, and it has the upscale brand name thing going for it. Even better is to epoxy the tucktape in there.

tuck tape for short term repairs but it leaves a nasty red residue, once inside epoxy good luck removing it, remove it with solvent from the board and the epoxy might not stick :roll: it's better just for ancient sail repairs :lol:

tips- epoxy in the evening (cooling temp) and negative pressure in your board will help suck the resin in deep. for paint, ive been using white "appliance epoxy" . damn, it wasnt the new kombat was it!?

thanks for the tips and links. no Dwd it was my Carve... so not too torn up about it. went for the 'make the crack bigger to fill it' approach. working with that expoxy stuff is kind-o-fun... almost want to make some more dings to practice on!
for the record I was kidding about duct tape... but it would probably work in a pinch.
thanks!
