If you are tall and handsome like Wdoc, you should buy the Goya. If you a slighter shorter yet still handsome, like say Kus or I, you should buy the Quatro. If you weigh less than 100 lbs like BWD, you should go Starboard.

See, simple.

Buy kus's 80 l. Evo and add some fin boxes. Buying your wife a new quad may not be a relationship enhancer.

YEAH - I was thinking my "wife" needs a quad too, and a thickness planer, a new sliding table for the large saw, etc.  To Nanmoo's point, we mid-50's, not-so-good-looking, not-so-tall, not-so-featherweight, not-loopers may need to hold up the single fin revolution a while longer. Haven't sailed a tri since 1990 and yet to use the quads, maybe this winter I can be convinced, keep hoping, then leaving town, then having too much fun on the JP FSW single-fin.

From <a href="/http://www.blackprojectfins.com/product ... ad/">black project fins</a>

HOW DO I SET UP MY MULTI-FIN BOARD?

SAIL BOARD TWIN QUAD (STANDARD) QUAD (BALANCED) QUAD (ALTERNATE) THRUSTER
3.7 64 2 x 14 2 x 10 + 2 x 12 4 x 11 2 x 10 + 2 x 13 18 + 2 x 10
4.2 71 2 x 15 2 x 11 + 2 x 13 4 x 12 2 x 10 + 2 x 14 18 + 2 x 10
4.7 78 2 x 16 2 x 12 + 2 x 14 4 x 13 2 x 11 + 2 x 15 20 + 2 x 11
5.3 85 2 x 17 2 x 13 + 2 x 15 4 x 14 2 x 12 + 2 x 16 22 + 2 x 11
5.8 92 2 x 18 2 x 14 + 2 x 16 4 x 15 2 x 13 + 2 x 17 24 + 2 x 12

Things to consider when choosing your fin combo:
Fin recommendations are based on Expert riders, advanced riders should select one size bigger.
Select one size bigger for strong currents and onshore wind.
Chart is based on an average weight 80kg (175lbs), lighter riders may go one size smaller and heavier one size bigger.

Tried to edit the chart but it is beyond my ability. Did change the link right to the chart though.

sweet pricing on the SUP's... are they carbon? If so, how come they are so much better priced than the wind boards?

The entire production line has a mast foot bung. The Quatros in San Carlos also had them and they were popular. Gdawg was ripping on his.

I find it interesting more sailors here don't ride twins for our side-on waves or even bump and jump conditions. They are looser and actually more fun to turn tightly than most quads. The Quatro twin is really a great all around board and jumps onto the plane, jumps high due to its fantastic speed, and is perfect for Gordo's style bump and jump or CB. Same for the Starboard twins or Quad to twin convertibles. The quads rip upwind but give up that free and loose feel that is unique to twins. Some of the older twins were harder to sail upwind and get planing, but that doesn't seem to be an issue now. I love both types of fin set ups, but if you haven't tried a twin, you should!

This is just my opinion, but wow are those new starboard graphics ugly.

The fanatic quads on the other hand look sweet and are definitely up there with Quatro and Goya.

Quads

Post by KC7777 »

Hey,

Re a quad (or tri-fin). I just want one. I don't care if I don't need one. I just want one. I am going to buy one.

I have owned many boards over the years (Starboard, JP, Fanatic, Goya)....but seem most happiest on Fanatic (the Goya One is pretty sweet too). I'm really liking the look of Fanatic's 2013 boards. The finish on the Fanatic Team Edition (TE) boards is sweet.

Interesting that Fanatic are making their FreeWaves (typically a directional freestyle wave) with a Tri fin set-up for 2013.....powerbox and 2 slotboxes.

So am saving some $ over the winter, and selling some boards and skis. Then next June I plan on buying a 87 - 94L Fanatic Quad (or do I get a Fanatic Trifin 93L?) and likely also a 105L Fanatic FreeWave tri fin convertible to go with my 120L Fanatic Hawk.

2013 Fanatic Freewaves:

http://www.fanatic.com/content/products ... x_eng.html

And the new Fanatic trifin looks sweet too:

http://www.fanatic.com/content/products ... x_eng.html

Thoughts on the Fanatics? Quad or Tri-fin?

What size quad or tri-fin....I am leaning to approx. 93L (vs 85L)....as you can sail quads a bit bigger?? and I am not that comfy sailing or doing a ton of sailing below 4.2M....so a 4.5 - 5.8 board.

And am just putting this out there......for you nanmoo.

I had some ankle/fitness issues this Spring. But in 2013 I plan to be leading (or following) a pack of scared newbie wave on their first Oregon trip. So if I am too scared to sail at least I have someone to drink with.

.....mtm is in!

Who else?

BA?
Leah?
BigD?
Banjohips?

Likely last week of June and first week of July 2013?

Keith
